1/30/1971: Yep, that was the day I bought 67 GT 350 #0036. And I still have it. I suppose I should join the trend of other 50 year owners and write something for the Shelby American. OK, when I get around to that in the future.
Meanwhile, I'm wondering who has owned a 67 Shelby longer than I? Well, there was 3 or 4 mentioned in the 2020 Shelby American annual. And I ran into a 67 GT 500 owner back at SAAC 42 (a Vietnam vet from Indiana). Also, although I haven't been to the Indiana SAAC Spring Fling in the past 5-6 years, there was an original 67 Shelby owner there almost every year. So, if you are an original owner, or, bought your 67 Shelby between November of 1966 until, lets say 1975, and still own it, lets hear from you. At 50 years now, I figure I might be at least in the top 25 of long-term owners
And then who is the youngest owner? I recall from one of the annuals that there are just a few who bought their 67 younger than I. I was 18 years and 345 days old on January 30th 1971. Who else might be younger?
Hello Rod,
CONGRATULATIONS on having 0036 in your life for 50 years!!!
I have had 0100 with me for 41 years and 33 days now. I purchased 0100 with help from my wonderful parents when I was 16 years and 76 days old. The attached photos were taken on 12/27/79, the day we picked up 0100.
Best regards,
Eric

Hi Rod,
Congrats on owning #0036 for 50 years!! That is definitely something to boast about!!

Not a 67, but I purchased 6S550 in 1967, and still have it. Ron

Hey Rod
A day to celebrate indeed, I think you may have been one of the first early 67' owners I contacted upon purchasing 0031 in 1999, was great to meet you in person at SAAC 42 and to see your car in person for the first time too, you've been a good caretaker of 0036, keep up the good work and enjoy the ride!
Just joined the forum. Bought my 67 500 in April of 1970. It's been sleeping since 1972. For my birthday (70) this last year, I made a promise to put it back together for this coming summer. Will post photos when I figure how.
Brought 3120 home in 1975. Last year I thought I would have front end aligned because tires wore out on inside edges. You know how one thing leads to another, so here we are now.

Yes, hopefully ready for spring.
Jon, the real question is - how many lights are going back on the front???

What happened in 1972 to cause the 49-year sleep?
The second owner of #2681 purchased the car after the first owner traded it in at only 6 months old and 1668 miles on the odometer. Lawrence Bell would keep the car from 1968-2019, 51 years.
If someone else wants to start a 50 year love affair with a great 67...never a better time to start than at 1pm Central time over on BringATrailer.com... ;)

Michigan law would only allow the six, that's why I had to keep the fog lights covered. Of course that may have been changed, what with all the new LED lights.
Will probably keep it the same, but one never knows?
My name is Dan McLaughlin I have been the proud owner of 00239 for just shy of 50 years it also has been in hibernation for way to long it has 32,000 original miles it had one repaint at Earl Shieb in 1992 when I64 first opened I imagine that was the fastest trip anyone ever made then or present day on that stretch of road I think the paint job was 29.95 My engine is at a machinist friend of mine I age many questions but for now the one is who an do you carbs?
I forgot to add that was 18 years old as well when I bought 00239 . I am new to all this posting so I will apologize for all of the errors that i am sure that I am going to make my hope is that with everyone's patience I can gather the information that i may need to make 00239 STRIKE AGAIN!!
welcome Dan ! don't worry for the errors !!!
I will have mine 50 years next December. You should write a story for the Shelby American, everyone would love to hear about the good times, the bad times, the highs and lows of owning anything that long, but especially a Shelby
So write it up and send it over to Rick Kopec, he'll pick it apart and reassemble it so it's ready for publication. Might even make the cover and how cool would that be.
Can't wait to read it
Gee, I feel like a real youngun with only 43 years of ownership. Bought mine on September 2, 1977. I was 23. The car didn't run that well when i got it for which I'm somewhat greatfull, otherwise I might have done serious damage to myself and the car.
Looks like this guys got you all beat at 53 years with #3125 ,I found this while thumbing through the latest edition of the Shelby American annual, but some pretty amazing stories guys ,I bought my 1st Shelby when I was 37 yrs old & i'll be 56 this year .
Well I just looked at my first post and realized that I had typed a 9 instead of a 7 for the year that I had my car painted they did not have any color codes you just picked a color from the color chart that they showed us my friends and I chose British racing green it is still wearing it today
Sleeping Shelby has been that way because---22 years old. Girls. Beer. No anti freeze. Engine stolen from machine shop. Transmission loaned to a friend. Lack of funds to do it justice. --- Now it's time for a 482 tunnel port, toploader, freshened interior. Pictures soon.
^^^ I fully understand! Some things can take priority at that age, even above having a super cool car (well...maybe not.)
I blew up the 427 S-O in my KR on Willow Springs in Oct '83. Only took until Oct 2014 to get it back on the road again. 31 years.
In the interim, I trailered it to four houses I'd moved to, then sold it, regretted it, and tracked down the owner after 12 years to buy it back. Fortunately, he'd done nothing at all to the car except store it indoors, so it was exactly as I'd left it.
Congrats on keeping your car safe all these decades, and making the decision to get 'er back into running condition. That first roar of the new engine start-up will be time travel for you.

Do you mind sharing your last 4 VIN#'s?
I have 0875
I am just curious about some combinations. I thought Parchment was in black, Nightmist, and DMG and grey cars only. Always learning new stuff tho.

I saw that. Being curious, I looked 1551 up in the registry. Sounds like it spent it's entire lifetime here.
I have to believe Wimbledon White over Parchment is very very rare. Very cool that you are putting her back together.
It looks like your car has been off the radar screen since the late 60's. Very cool to have it (and you) surface now.

Wow, so cool to see a (sorta) white on white. Welcome!
Thanks guys. I'm not ignoring anyone. Just struggling how to respond. Including PM. Working on it.
I even love the meaty rear tires!
Wow you'd think a unicorn spec for sure but i notice https://www.instagram.com/chrisbrownclassics/ is doing a full restoration on an original white on white GT500 also right now ,or is this the same car or possible a double unicorn either way can't wait to see them finished .BTW you should start your post on your car ..
Soon as I learn how to navigate this site a little more comfortably, I have several photos I can share. Starting when I pulled her from storage I January 2020 to present. Thanks all.

Who is restoring it for you? Gary
Rod, you really got the ball rolling for us old timers! Congrats on your long term ownership. I bought 3131 on August 9, 1967 new at age 22 + 300 days. I was lucky enough to finish college with money in the bank and Schmidt Ford was glad to take it. Long story short, but college doesn't give you common sense and I never thought a few tickets would be a problem getting insurance. Man was I wrong. When I called the insurance broker, he refused it sell me insurance. I had the car titled in my father's name and it was insured through him. When I got married, he sold it my wife for $1. We are still married and whenever someone asks if its for sale, my wife tells them, " I drove that car to my wedding and I am never selling it!" Still enjoy it!

^^ nice Charlie!
Can't tell from that angle, but do you have inboard/outboard lights?

Looks like both.
It has outboard lights. I added a pair of driving lights behind the grill. We did some road rallies in the 60's and 70's. There was an active sports car club scene with lots of TSD and gimmick rallies. Even an introductory course on how to participate in a TSD rally that one club held every year. We participated in the Maryland Monte Carlo in 1970. It was a three day event starting at night on Friday and ending Sunday afternoon. Great fun. Anyone out there part of the Maryland sports car clubs then? Here's another picture of 3131. The couple standing next to it borrowed it to drive to their wedding in 1967! The picture was taken on their 50th anniversary in July 2017.
Charlie D
Ya know, I ran quite a few gimmick road rallyes in the Chicago area during the 1971/1972 time frame with #0036. And also a couple of Time-Speed-Distance rallyes. If you didn't have a "Halda", in a TSD, you were out of luck.

Ah, I love a sweet story like that. I drove our Hertz car on my wedding day in 1992. Yup, still together too.
Some of you guys make me feel like a new owner! We've only had our car for 38 years, and at 22 we were pretty old when we bought it!
