If someone put one up for 1000.00 it may be perceived as what is wrong with that one because it is too cheap. ::)
So whats the call on this item. Would not having this mat kill your score in a concours event or would a replacement be OK.

It all depends on what class you are in and what venue. If a class that a quality repro is acceptable then there are acceptable high quality versions available . If in a class that does not allow repro then there would be a deduction for the repro . There are various tells to verify original. I'll let others go into that dissertation . Condition of a original is also a consideration and depending on condition may merit points deduction or just a mention. I have never seen one sell for even close to the amounts on the discussed auctions but who knows what the future holds.
Since trunk mats seem to be trending up- mine has a stamp, 9586-
Does any know of the significance of that ?

May include the date it was made and plant. Don't recall seeing similar markings on assembly line or early service parts.

+1, haven't seen a molded date or number like that on an assembly line mat. They normally are ink-stamped in white with the engineering number and date. There is usually a cross-hatch impression in the back of the mat also... which repro doesn't have (they are smooth).
Here's a real esoteric question: Is there any difference between an original, production line mat and the service replacements?

Reply 16 and 17 give a few reasons why some service replacements are not the same as assemblyline. The good repros that I have seen must have been copied after later service replacements which is typical because they have all the same later issues.
