Title: 65 fender bolts
Post by: DRGT350 on December 04, 2020, 05:10:54 PM
My car had a mixed set of fender bolts from a prior restoration -

what is the correct fender bolt for a mid 65 GT 350?  Star washer or round? Head marking?  Any sources of correct bolts or a picture would be great   !

Thanks for your help...

Dave

If you can provide some dates from the engine compartment sheet metal or PM with the first three numbers of the sequential numbers (better) I can provide what they were using during that production period at San Jose. Might as well post the spring cover ones at the same time.

Believe they are supposed to be star.

After a fairly quick look at spread sheets and pictures I offer the following after you  provided some more specific details - Thanks makes it easier and I don't  have to look at every single car

Agreed the style of washer was star as it was what was used until the last part of the years production when they switched to the "smooth" washers

As for head markings it not difficult to find cars with some mixed fender bolts. The workers who kept the line supplied with bolts either dumped the new supply on top of the bin where the older ones were stored and not about out or they replaced the bucket and dumped the few left in the older bucket on top of the new. The we have the difference supply bins (driver and passenger) to consider   ::)  We were not there and don't know for sure but we do find differences between one side and the other or an odd one from time to time. Also plenty of cars have had their fenders off - hardware replaced or the car "restored" over the years

In any case most owners want uniformity and if you don't know your car has been untouched it is a choose many make. With all that behind what I found the same time as your car was likely built (looked during, somewhat before and after) I found that the "   " style  is the most likely of the versions for that given time

Top center is from a different location but nice clear picture of the star or gear washer and the head markings
