Post by: RSOHC on December 02, 2020, 02:43:23 PM
What is the correct color of paint for the trunk of a GT500?

On the visible surfaces the same color as the exterior of the car. Painter did not make much or any effort to paint the corners, bottom side of the quarter panels .....Also the paint was applied over seam sealers and sound deadeners found in the trunk. Paint was applied before any bolt on item was attached to the car, so no gas tank. And the Shelby modifications were done after so cuts and edges would not have paint on them

Pete Disher has some pictures of the seam sealers in one of his recent updates on his site. Always a good place to look for 68 related details

My question applies to the bottom of the inside of the trunk where the space tire rests not the trunk lid.

That is what Jeff is referring to as well.

Visible surfaces such as trunk floors to the right and left (with rear bumper support brackets)  of the gas tank and in front of the gas tank. Quarter panel to wheel house supports. Visible wheel house surfaces, back side of the taillight panel and inner facing quarter panel surfaces with sound deadener applied prior to that. Finally any sheet metal panels or supports between the interior and trunk type and number depends on if you have a fastback of convertible. Bottom side of trunk lid, hinges and hinge support panels. Think that is most of it.

Thanks.  My car is a white fastback and the portion of the trunk under the spare tire is painted black.  I now have a project to change the color from black to white.

That spot around the hole was bare steel on both sides of the tank
