Does anyone know the month of the issue of CARS magazine that has this great Gordon Chittenden article?

The rest of the article has some fantastic 1966 detail photos, and it's driving me nuts that I didn't save the cover or the contents page.
It's really cool to me that it looks like the road test photos were taken at LAX!
Thanks,
Kieth
Could be May 1966, I have it but not in my hot little hand ;) can't get to it now.
Image found on the 'net, GT350 test called out on cover, and super tuning the 260 Tiger.
Mike
Thanks Mike. I had speculated that myself, but wanted to see if I could find proof positive by someone having the magazine with cover/contents intact.
Also, note that the cover you posted is "Hi-Performance Cars. I'd like to confirm if that title and CARS were indeed two different magazines??
;)
Kieth,
I have the same article in a plastic sleeve, on the sleeve I wrote "July 1965?", but that seems way too early to me...

Poking around on ebay it looks like "CARS" and "Hi-Performance CARS" are the same magazine, title change looks to have been ~Oct 1965...
Thanks Dave, you are spot on about that name change after the October 1965 issue. I discovered that myself today after making my original post.
You can see in the scan I posted that it definitely says only CARS at the bottom, which would infer that the article might be prior to October 1965, even though it features a 1966 model. I need to see if an article later than Oct '65 still has pages that are marked just CARS, or if that changed to Hi-Perf Cars, for example.
The May 1966 issue that Mike suggested is an intriguing possibility, and if my article did indeed come from that issue, it would prove that only CARS was displayed at the bottom of the pages even after the magazine changed names.
It's really getting intriguing now!
Dave,
Your 'July 1965' note might be the right stuff! Note the 1965 1/2 "Mustang GT-350" Performance Test on the cover of that issue:

I need to search if Gordon Chittenden wrote for CARS magazine...
Kieth
Kieth, it's not that issue. I just found that July CARS issue mixed in with my Motor Trend magazines from 1967.
Gordon Chittenden is noted as the West Coast Editor.

Kieth,
Mike nailed it with the May 66 issue. Looking at the article I have, the "continued" page 76 talks about the Sunbeam Tiger and GT350, both are mentioned on the image he posted.
Now I'm curious about the 1965 1/2 "Mustang GT-350" Performance Test mentioned on the cover of the July 65 issue!
Dave
Dave,
I don't have page 76 of that article, so it's great to learn that the content of it matches what is stated on the cover of the May 1966 issue.
I remain curious about just the word CARS being shown at the bottom of pages in a magazine called HI-PERFORMANCE CARS, but maybe that's just the way they continued doing it even after the name change??
Thanks!
Kieth
Mystery solved!
Thanks to all for the help - much appreciated.
Next: an article & photos in an undated issue of Rodder & Super/Stock . . . . .
Does anyone have any idea which SFM that test car is? I can't see any backup lights so it might be a carryover. Or maybe there's just too much smoke blocking visibility to that part of the rear valence.
Steve
Steve,
I scanned the photo showing the car rear at higher res and adjusted contrast a little in photoshop, IMO the right backup light is visible so not a carryover. I think you can make out the left one as well, but not as convincing as the right.

Dave, THANKS for the extra effort! That answers my question.

I see the article subtitle mentions "dial-a-win" automatic shifter. By chance, does the article state this car as an automatic? If so, possible its the same test car used for Sept. 66 Motorcade magazine article "Rent-A-Tiger"? This is the article where a Hertz is compared to a "regular" GT350 to see if its the real thing. 🙂

Stephan,
I'm not sure what you are requesting - please clarify?
Kieth
Hey Kieth,
i kindly asked if you can show the other sites from the Test ...
Thanks
Stephan
I have the magazine. What stands out to me is steel wheels with LeMans stripes. Definitely a '66 , not a carryover.
