Some years ago I put a repo wiper bag on 6S1348 because it looked fresher. The one that was on the car
when I bought it in 1982 went into my collection of parts. I had to move some of my stuff last week to
reorganize my garage. In a box I found the original wiper bag, at least I think it is.
I think the right hand bag is repo and the left hand is an original.
Is this correct? I appreciate your opinion.
Thanks,
Les 6S1348

Les, I don't believe either of these bags would be correct for a 66 regular production (non-carryover) car as they had gold letter Ford bags. These would however be right for a 65.

You are correct in your assumption that the bag on the left is genuine and the right is repro IMO.
Think a read somewhere the Ford gold script bags were an April 66 change over through early to mid 1967.
what does 1134 have from original? gold? phred

The bag was missing when I bought 1134 in 1992. What does your car have?

I believe the 65's had twist-on caps - not hinged.

Thanks Bob,
I see on 2169's picture on thread Re: Share a picture of your 66 GT350 reply # 53 that car has what looks like a gold bag. Was there a change over from white letter bags to gold during the later 1966 production?

Steve ,
All '65 (chassis) cars used the twist on ( loose) so that includes carryovers. '66 was the "flip cap" style ( which prevented cap loss) until later in production I thought around around 1500 but I could be of a hundred or so.

Steve, thanks for the clarification. If (and others can confirm precisely) all non-carry over 66's had gold lettered Ford bags, I wonder if the bags shown are for a full size car like a Galaxie?

The transition from the white letter flip top bag to the gold letter flip top bag appeared to be very late in 66 production . It was probably June or July . I would guess that during that time you might find both used until the transition was completely gold letter bags. FYI the gold letter bags were used up until after the first of the year 67 on that year production. At least that is my opinion others may have different.

+1 From a 2012 survey I did of my pictures I found the white lettering used on washer bags in unrestored examples through July 66 at San Jose
Don't recall ever going through and comparing or trying to compare when the change from screw to flip caps too place possibly
Thanks all,
I will put the original back on 1348 after I have cleaned it up a bit...

That is what I bought 1134. Since it is close to yours looks like I made the correct choice.

6s554-Nov 65- has original bag and it is gold Ford script. Cap is flip up. Beautiful condition but faded. Wish I could re-stamp it. That would be one damn big stamp with a handle the size of a plunger!
