SAAC-44 / Re: WIN A NEW SHELBY GT......maybe
May 17, 2019, 09:57:04 PM
I'm hearing rumblings that there is doubt that an ACTUAL Shelby is going to be given away at dinner.  Maybe I should clarify a few things....

- It's a REAL car.  Not a toy, not a scale model, not a power wheels...a REAL car
- The car that dinner guests will be competing for is valued at $70,000.00
-  We will be playing a game of chance in order to whittle down the competitors to one final contestant.
- The final contestant will have one attempt to win the game of chance...and the car.
- A winner is not guaranteed, hence the "Maybe" statement.
-  Odds of winning are better than a professional golfer hitting a hole in one (actually 10 times more likely).
- Yes, An insurance policy had been taken out cover the cost if we do get a winner.
- No, it will not us any more if we do get a winner, so WE WANT TO HAVE A WINNER!!!

Any other questions from the naysayers and disbelievers who are questioning our intent?

You may think this is too good to be true, but it's the real deal my friends.

WIN A NEW SHELBY GT....maybe

Everyone who attends the Team Shelby Thursday Evening Dinner and Program (certain exemptions apply) will be eligible to participate in a Shelby Challenge event. This competition is more based on your luck, than your skill, but we will eliminate the challengers until one person is left standing.

If that person can successfully complete the final challenge, they will be rewarded with the keys to a new Shelby GT!
Yes, a REAL car...not a die-cast or a go-cart, but an honest to goodness Shelby automobile!!!
Details to be provided at dinner, and you must attend to participate.

Photo of representative car is shown. (This is not the specific car you will win)

You don't seem to have a category that would include 2015+ Super Snakes, Terlingua or GTE.

If you bring all three, we will fit you in....no worries.

2019 Team Shelby Carlisle Weekend

Friday, May 31st – Sunday, June 2nd

Join us as we celebrate the Carlisle Ford Nationals with a weekend of Team Shelby exclusive activities, friends, cars, and lots of 'damn fun!'

If you have attended the Carlisle portion of our Grand National event previously, then you already know what the weekend holds. Although this years event stands on its own (since we will hold the Grand Nationals/SAAC-44 out by Pittsburgh this year in mid-July), it retains all the fanfare you have come to expect, and will have some new surprises as well....

Our hospitality tent, the largest club tent on the show field, will open on Friday morning to welcome you. Friday won't be as rushed this year, and you will have more time to detail your ride, and wander the Carlisle fairgrounds.

Friday evening we will be moving to a new venue for our Team Shelby dinner program. I won't spoil the surprise, but your gonna like the new place we selected. As part of the activities, we will host our "Cars Under the Stars" car show, as it has now become a traditional part of our visit to Carlisle.

Saturday will find Team Shelby/Shelby American on the Carlisle Main Stage for a walk-around with one of the latest Shelby vehicles. We will host lunch in our tent, and announce the winners of the "Cars Under the Stars" show. In the afternoon, take part in the Carlisle burn-out contest (if your tires are up for it), then stay to see who is crowned Ms. Carlisle.

Although we try to 'change things up' every year, when we hit on something good, were not opposed to doing it again...especially when there is an overwhelming demand from the Shelby team. Because you asked for it, we will be go-carting again on Saturday night! You've had a year to hone your skills, and lick your wounds, so this years battle should be even more competitive. We will also be having a 'cookout' style dinner at the go-cart track.

Stop by the fairgrounds Sunday morning to see if you have won an award from Carlisle, take a last walk through the show field, say goodbye to friends, and take one last picture of your car before you head for home.

I've been on their tour at Shelbyfest in Missouri. I bet this one will be just as good!

Terry

Thanks Terry!  Anyone who joins in the tour or the poker run won't be disappointed.

Those events sound like fun.  I'd like to do the tour in my 69 GT350 convertible.

I hope you join us!  Would love to see your car on the road tour AND the poker run.  Keep an eye out for more details as we get closer to the event.

This sounds great!!!  This will be my very first convention and I am looking forward to it.  But I have a question.  What is the difference between a road tour and a poker run?

By my definition....

A road tour is a non-competitive drive to different venues where we will stop and enjoy what that attraction has to offer.  If we were "touring" in the Philadelphia area, the Simeone Museum would be a good example of where we might stop (if you aren't familiar with the Simeone Museum, do yourself a favor and Google it).  The route we take to get from place to place is usually based on getting where we are going quickly, as opposed to the most picturesque route.

A poker run is competitive!  The route is based to get you off the highway and onto the roads less traveled.  Winding roads, and scenic overlooks take precidance over getting there quickly.  Along the way there are quick stops (sometimes you don't even get out if your car), where you will pick a playing card from a deck.  Five stops gives you five cards to make a hand of poker.  Best hand wins a prize!

I've already spoken to the regional director of Team Shelby about some events/driving tours they are planning and I understand SAAC members will be able to attend as well.

For those attendees who don't track their cars, and are looking for something new and different to do while at the convention, Team Shelby will be hosting a road tour on Thursday and a Poker Run on Friday.  Team Shelby welcomes and encourages all SAAC members to join in the fun!  The road tour will takes us to attractions in parts of Ohio, as well as the surrounding Pittsburgh area, including a lunch stop along the way (possibly at a Pennsylvania Dutch kitchen).  Friday's Poker Run will have us heading north through some beautiful scenery and maybe a quick stop or two, before turning around and heading back to the host hotel for the SAAC dinner.  Speaking of dinner, Team Shelby also invites all attendees to join them on Thursday night for an off-site dinner in a venue that you will find unique.  The evening program will include special guest speakers, charity auction, and some other activities that are still 'classified' at this point, but when the details start to get released, you will be quite surprised at what we have in store.

When registration opens, all Team Shelby hosted activities will be offered as ala carte choices to add to your weekend package.  We are gonna have some damn fun!!!

The amount of people and actual individuals who did not show up speaks volumes.

So what was the reason these folks did not show up?  Are they just loosing interest with a national convention, not happy with the current 'administration', or is there some other reason that would stop them from attending?
