Title: CSX3063 on Ebay
Post by: eric lipper on September 08, 2022, 11:00:16 PM
This car has been much discussed, debated and critiqued but I may still bid on it just because it is a nice replica.  What do you think?

Would you say in the context of histories this car has a better history? https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0522-503023/1965-shelby-427-competition-cobra-roadster/

The car was never sold through Shelby, never spent a minute at LAX, and I doubt that the "CSX3063" was engraved in the 1960's but it is, for sure, a really nice replica with some fun stories.  The car has been for sale for a long time and is a consignment car.  But if they really want $1.25MM (or anywhere close) it ain't coming from me.  I think the price should be about where the bids stopped on PCarmarket.

Update on this car.  I made a serious offer and the seller is sticking for what must be a very high 6 figure offer.  So CSX3063 will not be mine -- I am probably better off.  If any of you know of any Cobra's for sale I am always in the market.

Do you think you would have the same problem when you try to sell it? Why would you want to create that problem for yourself?

Instead of buying a car like this why not buy an Aluminum continuation car or another AL car built like the old ones for a fraction of the cost?

It looks like this car went to a buyer and I wish him/her good luck.

I agree with all of the advice here on how the car is overpriced and would be a pain to sell.  This car already went no sale on PCA Market and the Seller/Dealer/Consignor and since then has been advertising it on its website for over a year.  This dealer has had some interesting cars in the past and I watch his site (since it is here in Houston) with some regularity.

To be clear, I was considering the car for what it is because CSX3063 is nothing more than a replica.  It never was sold through Shelby and has no real history.  The stamp on the frame looks fake to even me but I am no expert.  I have read all of the public discussion on this car.  Nevertheless, the car is a nice replica and if the seller was realistic I still probably would have bought it.

I know this is crazy but my thoughts were if I could have gotten the car for about $400K I know it would be an insane amount of money to pay for a replica but it still has a fun story and looks the part.  When the parts from which this car was recreated were owned by Forristall here in Houston I remember seeing them in his shop.  But, in hindsight, I am glad that the seller rejected my offer because something else better will come available.
