Title: Magstar Reproductions
Post by: rmarble57 on January 20, 2020, 11:30:53 AM
Does anyone have experience in the quality / finish / looks comparison between the reproduction Magstar 15 x 7 wheels?

These at Summit:  https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sdk-lw30-50754b   $176.36 each

These at Cobranda:  http://www.cobranda.com/kehamawh.html    $559.95 each

And these on Ebay:   https://www.ebay.com/itm/332450239672    $450.00 each

Needing 2 that match what's on my car.  I can't find any identification on the back side of the 2 that I have other than a stamping that says: 70612

Appreciate the assistance.

Closest match (depending on what you have) would be the e-bay listing, although they are welded not riveted like the original and no one sells the non-bead locking safety rims as the originals were.  The Branda wheels MAY BE ???  the same as the e-bay if you go that route might be best to call them.

The best reproduction Magstars come from Craig Conley out in California (Paradise Wheels).  And, given you have an early car, he can have the centers painted the correct "aluminum" color versus the later black colored centers.

I believe (don't quote me) that the eBay user "mcpaxtonman" is Craig (this is the user selling the wheels from your link).  And, if you're looking to buy, I'd do it soon, as he mentioned his prices going up soon due to additional costs in production materials.

Here's his website:

Also, I've used the Legendary Wheels as well.  They are lighter and well made - much cheaper.  While they won't pass in concours judging, they are great for getting out and driving.  Just make sure to buy the good center caps that Legendary makes.  The ones that come with the wheels are cheap plastic and are not the same size as the stock center cap stickers.  Ask me how I know.   ;)

I purchased a set for my car several years ago from Craig (Paradise Wheels).  Great product, excellent quality, and he is easy to work with.  If you have them shipped, the wheels are well packaged.

Awesome.  I'll take that advice.  Have been trying to call Paradise for quite a bit of the afternoon, but just get a busy signal.
Yes, I want the plain unpainted centers.
Thanks for the assistance.

Unpainted centers on the Mag Stars are typically not factory on the early. They were panted a color similar to a bare aluminum look but not the same. The painted centers helped keep the bare aluminum centers from oxidizing.

Thanks Bob,
I have Vapor Honed the centers and then applied SharkHide for protection.  I believe that they now emulate the coloration pretty close to the original.

Thanks to everyone on the forum for their advice and recommendations.
