SAAC Forum Requests / Re: SAAC Member badge

Or fake membership. I'm not insinuating that you are, but someone could and that's probably why the old system required the administrator to add the badge.

If you are an SAAC member you can log into the SAAC Member Lodge and do a member search to see current membership. If you can't log in, you're probably not a member. If you don't see someone's name, they're probably not a member. Of course that all depends on whether someone uses their given name on this forum or they're like me and use an alias to throw off the dogs from Interpol. Oh crap!! Now I've outed myself  :-X

FWIW I am a dues paying SAAC member - I just don't have a stinking badge! But I did get an ID card (That I've shown no one. Ever).

I find it amazing that after the original post and 98 replies no one has answered the question  :o

Simple Machines forum software supports polls IF that feature is enabled by the administrator, which in the case of the SAAC V2 forum appears not to have been enabled. Ron Richards, SAAC Board Member and owner of Computerworks is the forum administrator.

FYI the site is privately registered to Dave Winkler/RC Tattoos, it is not registered to SAAC or any SAAC Board Member. Go to whois.com and enter the domain name "saacforum.com"

Instead of crapping on each other, how about we respectfully direct this issue to the proper people to help make the site better for EVERYONE? As for me, I would be happy to volunteer my expertise to help those who are voluntarily (I assume) giving their time and effort to make this forum possible.

~Kevin

PS. If you're not an SAAC member (not just a forum member), you're not helping foot the bill for any of this, so I fail to see how your opinion matters. Where are those stinking badges? We NEED stinking badges!

I'm using American Collectors and I've been pretty happy so far. Haven't got the rate for next years renewal yet though. My daily driver policy went up 30% last time.  :o

I had almost the exact same problem years ago in my 69 Mach 1. I say "almost" because my problem was intermittent. Turned out that the metal toolbox that I carried in my trunk was pinching the hot wire to the rear lights and grounding it against the frame of the trunk floor. Depending on how I put the toolbox in the trunk it may or may not ground the taillights out, which killed the engine. During the day, no problem. But if I turned the lights on at night the engine died. Finally figured it out on the side of the road, in the dark, when I went to get my toolbox out to fix the problem and saw sparks as I lifted it. Turns out the toolbox was the problem!

I would trace your taillight wiring back and find out why they don't work. That may lead you to the source of your problem. Good luck!

As Paul Harvey would say; "Now you know the rest of the story."

He did tell me that manifold was one of only 4 made although he didn't say who made it. Jim smiled when he saw it and mentioned that it was very rare.

Shelbydoug, I appreciate your insights on the background on the car - thank you!

I did get the dyno sheet from 2006 when this motor was rebuilt:

My comment about the 56 MPG came from a conversation I had with John a few weeks ago. I mentioned that when I take the car to "specialty" car shows most people seem to know that the induction system is Webers. But when I take it to local shows most people have no idea what they're looking at. Some think it's some kind of fuel injection system, others have absolutely no idea. When I told John about that he said he used to tell those kind of people that these special carburetors would get 56 MPG because they were so efficient. Any of you that know him know that he really likes to tell stories. He's a world-class bullsh***er. In fact, I think a few of the trophies I got with the car might be for that.  ;D

I've been waiting to use my brother's Garmin Virb 360 camera for a little road trip. Might happen this weekend. When I do, I'll post the video. Meanwhile, here is a tease of it warming up a few months ago.  8)

The Lounge / My trip to the top of the mountain

I took a few hours today to take a scenic ride up US41 to meet the guru of Webers - Jim Inglese. I wanted to make sure that my Webers were working and synchronized properly and to take advantage of watching someone who truly knows what they are doing so I might learn a thing or two.

First off - Jim is a great guy and it was a real pleasure to meet him. He spent an hour and a half with me and he made a few changes and we took to the road to test everything out. I thought everything was working pretty good before I got there but it turns out that there were a couple of things that needed to be tweaked. And tweak he did! The car is actually running better at low to mid throttle than it used to. All the better as it winds up to 7 grand.

I was also impressed at how easily changes could be made with a couple of screwdrivers, a nut driver and a couple small wrenches. As Jim explained; "these carbs were designed for racing so they needed to be easy to work on in the pits." I've played with 4bbls - changing jets, tuning and checking float levels, etc. and these sure do look easier (when you know what you're doing).

Hopefully I will now get the 56 MPG that Barnes promised me when he sold me the car...

Since you're looking for options, there is another way to go. I have a Richmond Super Street 5-speed behind my B351 with a 3.50 rear gear. 5th gear in the Richmond is 1:1 but first gear is 3.27 so you get the same torque multiplier effect as an overdrive transmission with a low (numerically high) ring & pinion. The part number for the one I'm using is 7041710A with a Ford 1-1/8" 26 spline input. You will have to fabricate a different transmission mount and cut the driveshaft, so that may not be something you want to get into. If you want more info or pics let me know.

^^^ seems like a 427 Cobra in the snow would qualify for that AutoWeek  "Sideways at any Speed" headline  ???

I recall seeing a video of Cobra owners doing just that on the old forum site - driving in the mountains and getting caught in a snow storm, top down and all.
