Title: 6S961 on Ebay
Post by: silverton_ford on January 23, 2019, 10:22:35 AM
Nice looking car in the pictures.   Was for sale on Facebook a few months back for $115k, but the price has dropped a little.   6S961  (not mine....I wish....)

They say they want to sell the car and handle the restoration in their shop.  What shop is this and are they knowledgeable in Shelby restorations?

They're in Nebraska...
I recently sold them a GT 500 Convertible project and they restored it for a buyer...

It came out great...

Came out great, ok but was it correct?  If you go thru the Posts on some of the Cars up for sale, people here will pick it apart, Wrong Wing Nut, Wrong Fastener, Wrong Carb, Wrong Filter, etc, etc, etc.  PLUS, $99K for a Car that's needs a LOT of work is a bit much.

Matching number running and driving 66 GT 350 for 99K....

How much do you think it's worth?
And is there another 66 for under 100K that's a better deal today?

$75K / $80K Tops.  It's a 66, Needs a TON of work.

Not sure if we can find matching number 66 GT 350's running and driving in the 70's...

I'm probably wrong...

Would you have any comparable sales to base that upon?

I personally think the car at $99K is a steal.  All Shelbys are moving up and someone better jump on this one if they want a numbers matching one.

Could be a great deal, but many more detailed pictures or an inspection are likely required before concluding that.  Looks like a decent car but there is a lot I can't see in those few pictures.

100K and 100+ for a decent restoration? That would move it out of market value.

I think many on the Forum will recall around 25-20 years ago that a decent, restorable '66 was $30-$35K and it took another $30-$35K to do a respectable restoration.  Fast forward and a decent, restorable car is $100K.  Important to remember the effect of inflation and that these cars will always be collectible.

A good paint job on a car with good sheet metal and completely disassembled is 20K these days. That isn't a 225K car restored. The market is fluid too, as we have seen for years.

+1

Get it back to period with the assembly line date coded parts, i.e. 3259 Holley or Autolite ZFF.   Detail the engine compartment, i.e.  paint that radiator.   Make it mechanically sound and drive it as is.  Have fun with it.

Cory

P.S.  Can some post a few images before the auction disappears?  I can't do from work.  Thanks

I don't see mention of the serial number but it's claimed to be a Hertz car with candy apple red paint at one time.  Those non-black Hertz cars are certainly relatively rare not to mention how nice they look, especially in red with the gold accents.

I saw this car on Facebook back in November for sale at $115k.   I messaged the owner and he told me it is 6S961.   The ebay ad doesn't share the VIN, but that is what I was told.

I thought I saw the number somewhere.  Check the subject title, Craig!  Then this car appears to be one of the original red Hertz cars.  Sweet!

I agree we see plenty of standard black and gold hertz but what makes the value increase is rarity.......Green, Blue, Red and White......they're all great but please drive them.....that's what why they were made and why we like them....ps mine is white and gold

I've street driven my 1965 GT-350 for almost 45 years.
I'm really not sure what is more unsafe about it:
-one of the Kelsey Hayes pistons silently hanging up and degrading my brakes without notice;
-being rear-ended and immolation from cascading fuel in the cabin;
-perhaps being speared from the steering column in a front-ender;
etc etc etc
just about unanswerable, heck our bubbas 'in country' aren't even safe in MRAPS!

IMHO don't agree - its all about demand. People use rarity sometimes to justify a higher price or value.   We  see examples of this all the time where rarity does not equal more value even in the Shelby world.. Just an opinion :)

I agree, even when people build Clones, they build the Black / Gold and not the other Colors.

Looks like it still has the FoMoCo Gabriel shocks.  The top round plates can be seen under the shock tower brackets. Those are rare.  ;)

Nice

At least as early as 1972 the original spare 10-spoke from my 66 had the exact same tire on it.

Hi Dave,

Do you mean the Goodyear Red Line D70-14.  Was that still a bias ply?

Nice

Hi Cory,

Yep, Goodyear Speedway D70-14. Near as I can tell the tire has a 1967 date code.

Maybe not. Hagarty tracks classic car sales, including many through auctions which isn't always realistic of the entire market, but they're pricing '66 GT350s in concours condition at $258k!! Carryovers demand a 35% premium over regular '66 values.

https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuationtools/1966-Shelby-GT350

Here's their pricing theory:
https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/About-our-prices

Edit: noticed this car is a Hertz and Hagerty values these slightly lower than regular '66s but they're still at $238k.

Haggerty also tends to be over market average value.

As explained to me, Hagerty doesn't establish the cars value themselves. They use independent firms to do that.

There is no point to over value a car that you insure.

When I stated the value I wanted, their reaction was that they thought I was under insuring it by $30,000.

It might if it is an agreed value policy.

Personally I think that they feel like it is a pretty safe bet on these cars since most are babied, well taken care of and stored in fairly secure quarters. You seldom hear of an accident or claim made on collector cars compared to everyday drivers. Just my humble opinion  :)

I agree, even when people build Clones, they build the Black / Gold and not the other Colors.

Many on the periphery of the hobby don't know about the other colors and question the authenticity of my red/ gold Hertz.  They think I made it up. I shrug and let them walk away.

Addendum:  As far as value goes, I could care less if 843 dropped to $5,000.00 or, in fact, became worthless.  I am in love with my car.  I could not imagine parting with her even if the value dropped like a stone.  I would stand idly by and watch the crash, hanging on to her like a pit bull.  My father helped me get this car.  It is a link I will always have with my father.  (He's still here and angry at 90 soon to be 91 full of vinegar and clear as a church bell incidentally).  I have a misty eyed and traumatic bond with 843 after all I've been through in my personal life and she stayed true.  Damned I love that car!

BINGO!  Haggerty which I also use and my home owners was exaggerated by about 25-35%. Pay out is relatively rare in our cases.  So risk is low for higher premiums.
How many carry over cars have you seen in the 350K area?
