Hey Bob, I have a question a about how to post in the yellow flashing scamm alert. I have been scammed by a new sac member. Goes by Nicolasmoore. I posted in the wanted section for a 69 shifter detent spring and rear Taillight harness, he responded to both requests of which I had already bought the Taillight harness from you so I PayPal to a address he referred me to and now will not respond and no tracking number has been about 10 days with no response. Just trying to make sure no one else gets scammed. Thanks for your input
June 7th I was contacted by the Nicolasmoore screen name in a private message about an ad I have wanting a Cobra Accelerometer to contact his friend at this email. - phelpsmike01@gmail.com
The friend talked back and forth through email but could never provide pictures. He said he wasn't able to provide pictures. If you have something for sale and cannot provide pictures in today's technological world....hmmm.... it raised a red flag to me. I asked him to call so we could talk about the accelerometer. I was trying to get a comfort feeling about the deal. The phone rang but unfortunately I was too busy with my job to answer the phone. I googled the phone number and it came up in another scam on an air rifle forum. The number was 985-241-0277. I stopped responding and didn't try to continue talking.
I am sorry this happened to you. Thank you for bringing this post up. I have been wanting to do this for a few days now, but wasn't 100% sure it was a scam even though it has always smelled like once since he couldn't provide photos. I have been watching the activity of the account and noticed Nicolasmoore hasn't been on since June 8th.
Looking at the forum members list shows Nicolasmoore just signed up on the forum on June 6th 2021.
He is not listed as a SAAC club member.
Anytime someone offers to sell you parts that is not a longtime forum member should raise a red flag.
Sorry this happened to you, but he is not likely someone any of us knows.
I posted a wanted add for a 65 GT350 pitman arm, Small letter intake and a coil to dizzy wire. Got a message from Nicolasmoore saying his friend, martinsphilipe3@gmail.com had exactly what I wanted. After contacting martinsphilipe3@gmail.com about the items, he immediately said they had been sold but had the correct pitman arm. After several texts requesting pictures, prices, etc. and getting vague answers, I asked him to tell me what markings were on the pitman arm. Anyone who knows a real one from a cheap copy, he said he didn't see any such markings. Finally, got pics of really clean (as in recently cast) cheap fakes with no markings. Told him thanks but I would have to pass. Seems it was indeed right thing to do. If seller is evasive and cannot, or will not answer simple questions, be overly cautions and only deal with long standing SAAC members or those they personally vouch for.
I received a pm as well responding about a 427 cam shaft I was looking for. I ask for pictures and was sent pictures of a 5.4l camshaft. When I googled what cam I wanted, the exact picture I was sent came up immediately, meaning they just used it. I was pretty sure from the beginning it was phony and was trying to see where the scam was going to go. Whenever I asked a question about the cam, the response was "How much will you pay?" 🙄
Wow looks like this has happened to many of our members. Post has only been up for hour and a half and people have already posted on possible scam. Certainly hope at a minimum Nicolasmoore is removed from forum.
Me too
I was looking for a big block radiator and was directed to that martinsphillipe address.
Sent me a photo of a small block radiator.
Swore it was a big block for $350.
I didn't respond
He is scamming people all over the Internet. Just Google the phone number and you can find a bunch of them.
Roy
He contacted me too for a couple of wanted ads I posted. Probably went right down the line of wanted ads on his fishing expedition. Thankfully it smelled too fishy to me. Also his poor grammar put up a red flag too.
He sent me a PM. He said he had a side scoop for my friend's 68 Shelby that I had a wanted topic on. I told my friend about it and warned him it was probably a scam and he thought so too. I deal with those who post here regularly and I can verify through other members. Gary
His Message: You can contact Martins,he has 1968 passengers side lower scoop for sale in good condition Here's his email martinsphilipe3@gmail.com
sounded too fishy as in "Martins" that was a big clue besides no posts.
It would seem logical to ban and/or block this individual from the forum.
Here is something for future thought on scammers. The guy said he had the side scoop so my friend asked if he had the hood scoop for the hood . He said yes. That was the end of that. Most scammers do not have a clue about the cars.

You know he sold the Eiffel Tower twice to French businessmen.
Stories like this makes my mind drift to various methods of torture, the types that don't leave a permanent physical mark but do leave a permanent mental mark. I sometimes wonder how good I'd be at administering torture for such transgressions and think, on occasion, that I might accel at it and might even enjoy it a bit.
I see you long for the good old days, ah yes the Spanish inquisition those where the days !

Hmm some lie under torture especially if they don't have the real answers. Check out the WWII story here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effectiveness_of_torture_for_interrogation
I wouldn't be in it for the information. By then I will already have positively identified the culprit. Perhaps my methods would, instead, be for some other insidious purpose...
Ironically it was a Luftwaffe Commandant who adopted the friendly questioning method as far more effective which sorta became a guidebook for the CIA.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanns_Scharff
Hanns Scharff, a German WWII pilot interrogator, is considered the most successful interrogator of all time. In fact, he was so successful, he helped in shaping the U.S. interrogation techniques after the war. But how did he do it?
According to his own words, Scharff developed several techniques that helped him in his interrogations. First of all, instead of torturing or degrading prisoners, Scharff offered them courtesy and what appeared to be consideration. Instead of attempting to coerce or persuade with offers of booze and prostitutes, Scharff and his fellow officers took prisoners to whatever cinema shows were available at camp, and even shared tea and coffee with them, when they could get it.
According to Scharff, Prisoner of War (POW) interrogations should consist of three phases. First is to help the POW relax and feel comfortable by making small talk about anything at all. Second, after he's loosened up, the questioner should try to get the prisoner to reveal any military information or plans that he might know, ideally without letting him realize he has said anything of value. Third, the interrogator must write an evaluation report that is truthful, and that contains any and all information that might be useful to commanding officers in the field.

The exemplary tools and methods used during that period, the Spanish donkey, the Judas chair and of course being burned alive usually got the wanted results ( your death, truth or lies are irrelevant, it's the neutralization that quenched your thirst) viva España !
Yea, this has happened many times to me here. Trollers and scammers and fishers for your email address.
Similar almost got me scam on the Vintage Mustang forum from a wanted ad I posted for a carb. Guy sent an email saying his friend had one and was an honest seller
The guy sent real pictures of the carb but then it started to smell fishy so I backed out
Happened again on VMF so these guys have figured out guys looking for parts are an easy target
Get them on the phone, Google their name and number, search Facebook and make contact thru the forum PM system several times before private email
If you can't find them on Google or Facebook then they may be hiding
Also look at the email address....do you recognize the domain? The . Com part?
I had posted a wanted ad for a t-10 was given this Mike Phelps email info. tried to sell me a gm trans. Thought I was stupid. No thanks. Need to inform any forum member contacted by Mike Phelps friend.
Michael "Mike " Phelps one heluva of a guy, but kinda slippery when wet

Just a macabre interest in anything dark. Medieval torture, the occult, the Gestapo and so on. Gives me creative ideas for story writing. I find such articles and information by chance.
I should add this to the post as a warning. Before I realized the scam they asked for pics of the trans Im looking for. I have a cast iron T-10 sent those pics. The case has repairs on the ears. If you see a T-10 for sale on other forums mine could be used as a scam its still sitting in my barn. Pics included.
This is one reason why many are "watermarking" their pictures now.

2 Scammers PRESSURE you to act immediately.
3 Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way or contact their accomplice ( famous Olympic swimmers)
4 Investigate, investigate and investigate who they really are
5 At this point right off your losses
6 Lastly absorb the loss, stick a fork in it it's done

So are you saying, my new 1967 Registry that Nicolasmoore sold me is probably not on the way ?
I'm sorry... I couldn't help myself.......
I had an assembly line firewall insulation pad on my want to buy posting. I got the same story about "Mike Phelps" having one for sale. When I contacted the individual and asked for photos, I got the same excuse that they didn't have a means to provide pictures to me. When I replied that I wouldn't buy anything sight unseen they sent me two pictures of a black colored flat panel - not exactly a molded part with cutouts for various firewall penetrations. Clearly, these goobers are taking a scattershot approach in hopes of scamming some trusting soul. Now if you will excuse me I have to pick up an Apple Pay card from Walmart to pay my back taxes before IRS agents break down my door and haul me off to jail.
Can anyone tell me why this guy is still allowed on the forum? He tried to scam two of us just today.
Why cant he be blocked
I too would like to know the answer to that question ?

That's nice but now we need to watch for his next user name trying to scam people.
They are all over the net with this scam. When something sounds to good to be true THINK ABOUT IT ;)
Ask if they have a part that doesn't exist. If they say yes it is an easy telltale sign of a scam. My friend did this as I mentioned and didn't get scammed by the POS. He asked if they also had a 1968 Shelby hood scoops. The scammer said yes.
On one hand it's nice they let anybody join the forum that isn't necessarily a paying SAAC member. However maybe a simple five question test on the topic of Shelbys would make sense...only truly knowledgeable folks would be able to pass. What color were 65 Shelby GT 350s? Blue, yellow, red or white. Where were 65 through 67 Shelbys manufactured? California, Texas, Florida, or New Jersey? Who was Carroll Shelby's tire sponsor? BF good rich, Cooper, Goodyear or Uniroyal. What cubic inch motor was in the 65 and 66 Shelbys? 289, 302, 351 or 428. A Kuisle on these kind of lines should we doubt most of the scammers I would think..or force them to do a little research.

We do this on concoursmustang.com, seems to keep most of the riff-raff out. We have to change the questions every now and then.
Love the 5 questions deal but this site is not supported by AIR
What about 5 questions and a small $25, $15 or $10 donation for non SAAC members to support these efforts would be appreciated
On another note have you see the price of lumber lately and don't get me started on fuels prices !
Totally good with a 1-time modest donation. Would be a good check and balance in my opinion. Hell, I'd pay retro! There is a hellofalotta value to be had here in my opinion.

Deathsled,
As a huge fan of WW2 history anytime I can find a shiny distraction that attracts my interest I follow it. Thank you, your link to Hanns Scharff led me to the article. The article presented me with the rabbit hole on Lt. Martin J. Monti. The rabbit hole on Lt. Martin J. Monti led me to the rabbit hole on the Zirkus Rosarius, Mildred Gillars, Rita Zucca, (both of them Axis Sallys), United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth which led to Japanese American conscientious objectors, and then I realized I was lost down multiple rabbit holes and I wondered how I got where I am at. But it was a great morning mindtrip..... Thank you. I hope to return the favor someday.

You are most welcome. I like the darker side of WW2 history. I can be a bit macabre at times. I particularly liked the uniforms from an unspecified country. I am a big fan of uniforms overall. Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Shelby Cobra shirt from the OVC... I also like the American PSY-ops methods of dealing with people where it is appropriate and applicable. Not that I am nefarious, but I am aware of agendas. I have to or I would never have survived as an attorney.

My friend with the 68 Shelby vert who I advertised wanting parts here didn't get scammed by this guy but the guy tried to scam him. On another note he bought an "NOS" part off of POOKIE. I warned him before to stay away from "Eden". He shot me a pic of a NOS 68 TNT stick POOKIE had for sale(negotiated a price for it). I don't know if it is real or not(friend said he had a Ford box for it) so I told him I wouldn't buy anything off this guy-real or not. Gary

Wonder if Mr Mrs Miss Kaka is holding that 428 block firmly between his knees awaiting to sell ?
Like when Jack Nicholson in Five Easy Pieces is at the restaurant and tells the waitress :
"Okay, I'll make it as easy for you as I can," Dupea (JN) says. "I'd like an omelette - plain - and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast. No mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee."
"A No. 2. Chicken sal san," the waitress repeats, exasperated, through clenched teeth. "Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise. And a cup of coffee. Anything else?"
"Yeah. Now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a cheque for the chicken salad sandwich and you haven't broken any rules."
"You want me to hold the chicken, huh?"
"I want you to hold it between your knees," he says.
Does Kaka have any original FMC 1965-68 "Caution Fan" stickers in the original boxes or do I need to check with Pookie?
Michaelvandon5@gmail.com also contacted me.
He is without doubt a scammer.

How about we all come up with a fictitious part wanted (Muffler bearings) and post a wanted ad and see if the scumbag has one. Then we can decide who was the most creative on their fictitious part wanted. Gary

Unfortunately the scammers have permanently changed the game. I never advertise that I'm looking for a part anymore, I now ask friends to see if they or anyone else they might know have "part X". Unless I know the person I have to get a reference from someone I do know. Failing that if the part is worth the expense I arrange to have someone pick it up in person that I know and trust. Times have changed and so have I.

He is still emailing me!!!

How about we all come up with a fictitious part wanted (Muffler bearings) and post a wanted ad and see if the scumbag has one. Then we can decide who was the most creative on their fictitious part wanted. Gary
Gary,
I need a left hand threaded skyhook for my car ? :)

Back in 1988 I sold my black Boss 429. I had a spare complete S engine air cleaner to oil pan including manifolds. Everything original like it was ready to drop in a car. I went looking for a body. Being in Detroit every B9 body in my "First class" Hemmings was sold a day or 2 before I got my copy. I found out NY, Los Angeles and Chicago areas got theirs before Detroit(so much for "first class") so I posted a want ad in Hemmings. Almost got scammed on a body for sale from an inmate in Baton Rouge La. Found out 6 months later when the FBI came knocking on my door(my phone number linked to prison records). The first the G man knew of that type of scam(they were using "we can get your relative out early" scam at the time). The scammer even had a real B9 vin he gave me. This was around 1989. I ended up selling the engine. So while the game has changed there are those POSs out there that don't want to make an honest living. I wish we could hang/shoot them all.

I have them. You have a choice of metals and/or finishes. Which do you need?
Scammer gets scammed. This guy has a lot of energy and patience to reel them in and frustrate them. The anger levels of the scammers is off the scale.

I am looking for a drive shaft for my 67 GT500. I received a response from a Shasta Philipe, I ask for pictures. I got pictures from a drive shaft on listed on ebay Same picture as on ebay but for less money. I asked what state he was in ? never heard back from him.
Back many years ago during my career as a Ford dealer parts manager,
we used to have our driver stop at other Detroit area dealers and they would have a list of parts needed that day,
they would have that dealer check to see if they had any of the parts on-hand.
(This was before the "part locator" services used now).
We would add fictitious part numbers like C9ZZ-6321609-A to the list to see if the dealer would catch it!
( C9ZZ-6321609-A = LH vent window frame for 69 Mustang fastback).
I see a new revenue stream possibility on flea-bay ??
