1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Is this normal?
December 21, 2020, 08:25:42 PM
Any body notice anything here odd?? I see LOTS of pics out there of this area and they all have holes in the sides of the cowl. Is this normal not to have holes? I'm looking specifically at 67 Shelby's and mine has none? Seems odd...

Any ideas? Thanks!

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / What are these holes??
December 04, 2020, 06:02:48 PM
These single holes on each side respectively are in question?? What are they there for? I'm drawing a complete blank and can't find any info on them? They are both right above the hood hinges. Any HELP!!
I'm about to button up the engine compartment.

Thanks!! Matt

Appeals / SPEC Rearend Chunk
October 14, 2020, 07:29:12 PM
Everyone,

I'm trying to find more info out and possible asking pricing for a SPEC chunk I've recently acquired. I was elated as can be to find one FINALLY and this one is in great shape! It is a 3.89 ratio (GT350 I believe?) but it also has a Trac Loc installed too. The SPEC casting is upside down?

I've also since found the original SPEC case for my car!! It's a 3.50 ratio "open" unit. The previous owner took it out and thought it was junk because it had no posi!! It sat under a bench for 28 plus years!

I'm gonna sell the 3.89 SPEC unit as I no longer need two. What's a realistic price to ask? I've only seen a few through the years even offered for sale and NEVER one in person. Are they really THAT rare and hard to come by? Appreciate any help here.

Regards, Matt

Thanks everyone!!

Yeah, it pretty much sucks at this point but like everyone says "better now than later!". I'm letting the body shop do the top, he's said don't mess with it. I was trying to get the underside detailed only. I must have really done a great job prepping because it set up perfect!

I'm gonna get a small sandblaster and hit the bottom side and engine compartment again, start over. Do my detail work and the expiry primer it with the right stuff! Appreciate all the great responses!! 👍👍👍

Everyone,

I'm trying to get my car to the body shop to get painted. I'm trying to detail the underside and engine compartment before paint and then follow the paint overspray patterns. I washed off the Ospho and dried everything off. I scuffed the underside with 80 grit and used "Rustoleum Professional Primer" to help keep the flash rust from starting. I have a few places I needed to detail out with bondo from drag racing damage. The car immediately started to flash rust pretty good. I was planning on using the SPI epoxy "Red Oxide" as many do. Now I've been told, I messed up, I need to remove all the rattle can primer with lacquer thinner down to bare metal again? I've tried a few areas and this primer has bit in and won't come off!!

How do I fix this? Should I leave the primer on and scuff it like hell and take the chance or?? I didn't expect the Rustoleum Primer to bite in that well but it sure did!!

Regards,
Matt

3"? Not according to this. These are from my 3074, and LA. What part of China are yours from?  ;)

These hoses are most definitely 3" ID in diameter. The side scoops start out at 2.75" but tapper to 3" where the rivets attach.

The hose is slightly different than other hoses I've used. It has a larger interior flat band that supports the insides, instead of a wire like most.

Up For Auction / Re: 67 K code Eleanor?

It might just be an infamous "Cougarstang". I found a 67 Fastback with a 67 Cougar front clip grafted onto it! It was actually done very well but had different holes and something just didn't look exactly right!

That was a really cool piece and from an amazing collection/ famed restorer too! I was watching and waiting for it to sell quick but it didn't? It took YEARS for me to find mine!! I found a decent one and just sold it to a gentleman in Germany. It was in average condition for ones that I've found.

I sold this one because I'd found a better one. Any port in a storm as my buddy says! I found the better one on Facebook of all things! A guy needed a C5, I had a perfect one, he had the C7, we literally swapped and both were tickled to death to get them!! It really was a cool deal.

As good as my new one is, once you painted it, it's hard to see all the details. Still super cool to have!

That Perkins C7 was probably the closest piece I could reasonably afford for my car from him too...Ha!

I'm not sure myself. My car sat for a very long time before it was completed? I know both of the original owners and they both said it's always been there? Now, the only thing me and another Forum member can figure out is it just might have been replaced, maybe? The car suffered a clutch explosion in 1969/70 that took out the power steering, the master cylinder, and the hood. It also damaged the inner panels and hood hinges. The only thing I can surmise is it damaged the export brace too and this was the only replacement part available and someone modified it. Now, the strange part is it has small indentions where the 67 would bolt that were stamped where a 65/66 one clearly does not! IDK. Definitely a Ford piece that's been there at LEAST 50 plus years!

See here's the thing. EVEN if it was installed originally, it's still "wrong". That's what everyone is trying to tell you.

Like the "beehives" without washers.

shelbydoug,

If I had a dollar for every time a "Shelby Expert" told me something isn't correct, and in reality it was, my car would be done. I am NOT disputing Mr. Gaines or anyone else here nor am I trying to pass off my car as being original and or unmolested. My car has parts on it that are not considered the "traditional known parts". No one seems to have ever seen my style of end caps or upper scoops, maybe mine was a test car for something new? Who knows? Does that mean I need to throw out these "WRONG" parts?? It's amazing that a simple question and or an example of what MY car has on it compared to others draws such a snarky response.

If there's one thing that's undisputed is that, at some point, new evidence comes out on just how these cars were done and put together that might be different than the "Known" examples for so many years.

I've focused on finding the correct parts for my car for YEARS and just recently found an unobtainium "SPEC" chunk. I'm constantly trying to better the components and gather the correct information. At the end of the day, my car will be built to the absolute best of mine and others abilities. While it might not be "perfect" to others, it will be to ME!

Bob, JD, kram350, and many others I Thank You!

Hello Bob,

Do you have that AMK part number for the washers that are correct? Trying to get my AMK order together and I could sure use these!
Many thanks!!

This export brace was on my car and believe it to be original to the car. I've just never seen another car with the multiple pattern holes. Ive met and know the original owners of the car and neither replaced it nor would know to replace it. My car has a few other interesting pieces on it that really don't make sense either with the fiberglass. Totally different mounting techniques? Thanks for any and all the help!

Matt

I'm planning to use these PRW stainless roller rockers on BBM heads on my 428. Can anybody confirm that they will fit under the Lemans covers? Anybody got a decent set of Lemans covers for sale?

https://www.amazon.com/PRW-3239022-Stainless-Rocker-352-428/dp/B004C0AH0M

I've got two sets of original 67 LeMans valve covers I'd let go. I also have a set of 68 Black LeMans covers and Cobra 427 covers. I'll dig up some pics here in a few.

As far as the PRW roller rockers, most FE engine guys run away from those parts!! Too many failures and breakages!! If your not running too much spring pressure your probably on but IMHO, run away and pay the money for Harland Sharp's.
