Some really nice cars crossing the block this year at both venues. Thanks for taking the time to put these lists together.

All the cars at the auction look great but 5S262 looks amazing.  A SAAC Gold winning car.... I would buy this car and then do something dumb... like drive it everywhere.  Kiss a $100k good by due to road rash and wear and tear.

I did a lot of work on 5S262, it's a good car for anyone looking.  Someone put a brown solenoid on for some reason and added a bunch of hang-tags.  I assume the missing brake pedal pad will be installed as well as the jack/lug wrench and bungee cord.  Otherwise, it looks pretty much how it was shown at MCA/SAAC.

What about the generic looking fuel pump was it changed out ?

It had a button-top and a black solenoid when Legendary had it.

Ouch.  Pretty sure it was a 3939S on there before.

Here's the correct 3939S fuel pump that I had put on the car when I handed it over to Legendary Motorcar in December of 2019...I'm betting those NOS condition glovebox brochures probably got lost along the way too...  ::)

Solenoid was the correct black - it has been swapped out. Here's a couple other items swapped out or gone missing as well...spare tire cover, original bungee cord and NOS positive terminal protecting cap ( I sure hope that trunk lever doesn't touch or it could get crispy...

For all of the coverage of this car, no mention of the original engine.
Interesting vocabulary utilized by the auction house: a 'prerequisite' 289 (?).
Any pics of the block casting date, engine assembly, or engine machining dates?

12 May 1965 SAI arrival Mustangs (which this car is) are easily cross indexed for validity.
Can a car attain 'SAAC Gold' or 'MCA Concours Gold' without its original engine?

In the documentation the Ford and Shelby vins are shown on the Marti Report.  Should Mecum remove this?

For all of the coverage of this car, no mention of the original engine.
Interesting vocabulary utilized by the auction house: a 'prerequisite' 289 (?).
Any pics of the block casting date, engine assembly, or engine machining dates?

12 May 1965 SAI arrival Mustangs (which this car is) are easily cross indexed for validity.
Can a car attain 'SAAC Gold' or 'MCA Concours Gold' without its original engine?

Normally, unless the auction description specifically states 'numbers matching', it should be assumed that it's not.

Yes, a car can attain Gold in SAAC or MCA concours without an original VIN stamped block.  If the block was different, say a 302 installed in a '65, then that would be a major deduction... although at least with SAAC, we wouldn't allow a car with such a modification to be entered into concours.

It depends on the class at a SAAC  concours. In DIV I a appropriate vin stamp would typically be mandatory the same as dated coded Carlite trademarked glass, sheet metal, fuel pump etc.  In Div II however date codes and trademarks are not typically mandatory and good reproduction parts are acceptable. As Charles mentioned in this case any signs of a non vintage 289 block and or hipo heads are points deducted and would be encouraged to be instead in a modified class which in the case of SAAC is popular vote . Typically rather then diminish a entrants enthusiasm by taking a modified car out of a class the judges will offer one on one time to go over the car. At least for Shelby's at SAAC and MCA venues when I have been involved or observed that touchy situation.

I have the Mecum auction on in the background today. Would someone provide the background on the "Northwest Shelby Collection?" Here is a write-up and link to the cars being sold, but no mention of the owners or why they are selling:
https://www.mecum.com/articles/northwest-shelby-collection/

Unrelated, I saw a car (not a Shelby) being auctioned from the "FUX Collection." (Not sure how that got past the censor)

When I looked at the pictures of the vintage Shelby's from the "Northwest Shelby" collection I see some beautiful looking cars . It is apparent that they all are meant for the most part to look like factory original . Although beautiful cars the ironic thing is that with my factory original concours judges cap on I see a number of "Shelby 101" type mistakes in every picture . It makes me wonder how many other things would be seen out of the ordinary in other pictures of the cars.  It just goes to show you that if you are concerned about things like original look that you better know what to look for or have someone that does look a potiential purchase car over before you bid. At least if you don't want any surprises after the fact.

The '65 GT350 went for good money at Mecum just now, I think it was S262?

Which begs the question:

I wonder what a complete car is worth?

So you don't buy the description?

"Factory demonstrator when new
Rare trunk-mounted battery complete with "Cobra" vented battery caps
Documented with copies of the dealer invoice, dealer order form, shipping documents and owner's manual
Nut and bolt rotisserie restored
SAAC-42 Gold award winner
MCA Concours Gold award winner
Amelia Island Concours class winner
Greenbrier Concours d'Elegance award winner
Shipped new to Gene Harmon Ford in Texas City, Texas"

The SAAC and MCA judges missed something?

We'll get another view of the '65 GT350 market when 5s555 crosses the block at BJ. Not sure that is a "complete" car though.

Previous comments on this topic note some items changed/removed since the car was judged at MCA/SAAC.  Probably more of the norm than exception, unfortunately.

Yes, parts cobbing can be an issue, and hard to detect sometimes.

That Triple Nickel will be an interesting one to watch, and luckily it goes across the block just 12 cars before my '67 Corvette tanker,  on Saturday, Jan.27, so I will watch it.

Brian, I would like to add my thanks for your time and effort posting the list of cars and following up with the prices. My favorite use of the DVR is to blow through the auctions then stop for the cars I want to see and hear about. It is fun to guess what a car may sell for and then see the actual results as the bidding takes place. Today will be fun as many Shelbys cross the block. Thanks again.
Jeff

The Northwest Shelby collection didn't seem to make the broadcast at least not in my area ,they ended  right as they were coming up the staging area's,they showed the yellow kR with the hood up & it had a GT500 air cleaner set up  & a painted black taillight panel.

Does anyone know why the pair of L88 Corvettes(67+69) disappeared as a pair? It wouldn't be the first time a hyped 7 figure car got pulled. They were advertised as lot U78 first and last L88s produced.

Lot U78, the pair of L88's, the Mecum website now lists that lot as selling, for $2.585M including buyer's premium.

Also, CSX3006, lot F231.1, is now listed as selling, for $4.18M, including buyer's premium.

Same here. Disappointing to not see the collection go across. I was looking forward to seeing these cross the block. Kinda weird broadcast hours as I don't think they were on the air for Saturday night's action.

Did they stop the live coverage at 5? IIRC that is what they did when I was at the spring Indy auction. I had a friend who is also a member here who had a bunch of cars that missed the TV part due to the auction running late on that Friday the 19th. https://www.mecum.com/auctions/indianapolis-2023/collections/the-waterford-collection/    Barrett Jackson because of the time zone may be why we see the live portion running later out west than we see of Eastern time zone auctions.

I learned a few years ago to sit in a place where  the TV & a Computer are side by side while watching the auctions. The computer doesn't give you the coverage TV does, at least you get to see the cars you wanted to.... 8)

You can also stream the live broadcast on your computer while looking at upcoming lots on a separate tab (while at work  ;D).
