#0738... I didn't read the whole article, but figured it out from the window sticker. Some cool pics.
Neat story, I happen to know the orig owner of a 68 GT500 , fastback, highland green , non ac, 4sp . He still has it in a shed. Hubcaps on the wall. Does not run now. Just sits and he will not sell it. He said they will lay him to rest in it. LOL
Troy
I'm an original owner of a early 1968 Shelby GT350 and wonder if SAAC knows how many Original Owners there are.
There were 3 who told their stories at one of the conventions. May be Pete Disher would like to start a list?
Nice story and great vintage engine bay shot.
Thanks for posting!

Appears to be the Autolite carburetor and it has the idle compensator valve in the pcv hose. That is a priceless photo

Probably a nice addition to
thecoralsnake ;)
That valve and carb were only on early cars? Looks like the smog pump has been removed?
The vacuum hose doesn't look like it's going through the special plastic clip on the shock tower.
I think the smog pump is there. You can see the top of the adjustment bracket.
All cars started with the Autolite carb, several early cars never got changed to the Holleys
Its a rare shot for sure. The square paper tag on the cowl has been tormenting me for years
Oh yea. I see the bracket now. I was distracted by the dark circle on the front of the head.
My next question to you was going to be what looks like a paper tag. ;D
Dont see a battery heat shield?

Some 68 factory documentation reads AC only on heat shield although I have seen some on non air cars.

Directly behind air cleaner and above seal for hood on cowl. Looks similar in size to Dearborn, 1969 paper tag

Odd for sure.
I didn't a battery heat shield either.
What is the dark circle on the front PS head?
not sure what that circle is yet
Here is the pic full size, sharpened and with what's in the shadows lightened up a bit.

Boss on the smog pump
IS that a dual vaccum advance or single?
chris
It should be a single
OHHH, i see. Must be the fuel line im seeing because it has autolite carb i assume?
I think you are correct
red lettered battery;
radio static tab at cowl is not bent into seal.
Sure wish that cowl label was legible.
Gotta love photos like this. Thanks for the enhancement!

Boss on the smog pump
Gotcha. Must be a shadow and some weird lighting making it stand out.
It was untreated, so it is rusty

---------Sure wish that cowl label was legible.
Not sure if that bright white square is a sticker/label or just a reflection. Never seen anything in that location any plant or year

Good point, could just be a reflection.
If this is what you are referring to, I honestly don't think that is a reflection.

I think that's where Coralsnake's grandfather put his thumbprint...in a different place on each car, just to screw with Pete.

We'll just have to wait and see. If factory it will show up on other examples
Lots of bright sun and shadows in that photo. Anyone ever see two white dots here? ;)
We may never know.

It has shown up and I have posted other threads. Let me go find them.
Found it on that "other" forum 😀

Those two "white dots" could be reflections off the welds?
Look at the deep welds on opposite shock tower.

Yea, I was just making a case for the 'reflection' theory.
Seeing the BW photo from that other forum gives more credibility to the white rectangle being a sticker of some sort.
Remember from Forum 1.0 the hand written CH initials found on some cars that was tracked back to the AO Smith employee? Something else that was only found on a random cars. Could the sticker be a random AO Smith thing? Who knows?
Pete next time u come my way to indy or our shelby meet i will take u to a OO low mile KR that u can document for your coralsnake site. I looked at this KR awhile back and its truly an unmolested car the guy inherited from his dad who was OO and hasnt been cleaned or driven in a looooong time. That cowl sticker is in the same place and all inspection and chalk marks are still there and laying in the trunk is the front liecense plate bracket in the bag with hardware and mounting instructions not installed since indiana dont use front plates.
If I am in the area, I shall look you up!

Wow, sounds like an amazing car and has that cowl sticker. I look forward to photos and a full report from Pete. ;D
