Up For Auction / 67 GT500 Brittany Blue up on Ebay
August 07, 2019, 05:21:40 PM
Nice clean looking car.

This seller must be paranoid. He taped over the Shelby VIN plate sequence number (a little paranoid), and...
over the passenger side inner fender stamp (a lot paranoid)!

Anyone happen to actually know the full Shelby VIN #?

Hi everyone, anyone who can take photos of the '67's to please take lots of pictures for our research.
We're looking for some good overall front and rear views, interior, and engine pics.
A VIN plate would also be very helpful to confirm if a "Z" stamped car and how SA stamped it compared to the paperwork.
Thanks for any help here. I wish I could be there!

FYI; I just received this note with my last post. These were small sized photos that I tried to attach.

for occasional track time or long distance travel.

I assumed painters tape, but would like to be certain to use a type / brand that does not leave residue from the adhesive.
Also want to be sure it is not so strong it could pull paint or clearcoat off.

Thanks for any tips!

The photo caption said this was just restored by JBA / Jay Bittle with an engine overhauled by JBA.
It appears to be an early car with a slanted grille, automatic trans, and an added A/C compressor.

Would anyone happen to know what the Shelby VIN number is?

Can anyone identify the location of this photo with certainty?

It was noted to be a west coast event. We can see the 'A/S' markings on the doors of both cars.
It might be Don Pike driving this James Hilton owned car.

The post build Ford records show approximately ~340 cars left San Jose with the 6A 'smooth' black vinyl trim. That's ~10.6% of production. These can be split into two groups, as early builds, or as late builds. We believe the first ~228 cars ordered, on DSOs 2501-2527, received the 6A trim. These are the early builds.

For the remaining ~113 cars, the late builds, it's not so simple to define. It appears a materials shortage affected these cars. That shortage looks to have happened over multiple days starting in early June.

The only way to know for certain if you have one of these cars with 6A trim is to obtain a Deluxe Marti Report.
Information on obtaining a Marti Report can be found through this link; http://bit.ly/2t7I4bH

Here's how you can HELP:
If you happen to have one of these rare 6A-trimmed 1967 Shelby's (documented by a Deluxe Marti report), please reply to this thread (or PM me) with the following details from your car's Marti Report:
-The Shelby sequence number (last 4 digits)
-The Ford Trim code (6A, 5A, or 5U)
-The DSO number
-The DSO Item Number

We currently estimate these later-built cars with 6A trim (due to the 5A materials shortage) began while the DSO 89-2608 group of cars was being built. This was roughly after VIN #2800 and continued through to the end of San Jose production. With your help, we'll be able to pinpoint exactly what days(s) the assembly line ran out of material, when they were re-supplied, and the exact quantity of cars that were built with 6A trim by paint color. Thanks in advance for your help!

Additional details and theories can be found at the "1967 Shelby Research Group" in this link: http://bit.ly/67Shelby6Atrim

There was a discussion on SAAC forum 1.0 noting the earlier 6A 'smooth' trim differed from the later 6A 'smooth' trim. A few of us have tried to determine exactly what those differences were, but we have not been able to spot what exactly they are. If anyone can elaborate on those details, please let us know. I'm sure it would be appreciated by everyone interested in these 6A trimmed cars.

IMSA Mid-Ohio on NBCSN now....

NFGT #66 in second for the moment...not sure where the #67 is

Just noticed the #66 is running the 2016 standard red, white, and blue paint, while the #67 is running the metallic red, white and metallic blue paint.

The Lounge / What is the 'Super Mach I'?
April 18, 2019, 12:48:19 PM
This photo popped up last night of a white '68 Mustang Fastback named 'Super Mach I".
Maybe it was just a custom painted car privately owned, but maybe not.
The thin redline tires, custom period rims, and black sail panel treatment are interesting.
Would anyone happen to know more about it or have any other photos.

It looks similar to the '67 Stallion' fastback.

Ford GT / IMSA Long Beach results for the NFGT
April 14, 2019, 01:07:50 PM
I almost missed this one yesterday, but at least caught the last few minutes.
Once again luck was not on the Ford GT drivers side.
A mistake hitting the pit speed button apparently caused the no66 of Mueller / Bourdais to lose the lead to a Porsche with 45 minutes left.
That was followed by a last lap fuel issue for the no66 now running in second (not enough fuel, I'll get back to that later)
The no66 lost power, was hit in the rear by a Corvette while fighting for position, and put in the wall. It ended up scoring 4th in class
The no67 of Briscoe / Westbrook finished 6th in class.
Not a good day.

Back at Sebring the Ford GT's were detuned with less boost and reduced fuel capacity by 1 liter. No changes were done to the Corvette
Seems that might have made the difference on a podium finish.

Next up Mid-Ohio, May 2-5th.

This neat photo of a '66 GT350 in London was just shared with me.
It was noted as parked near the Crystal Palace for the start of the 'Daily Express' race.

Does anyone have a '67 or later Shelby that was sold through this dealer?

We know ten (10) were shipped there for the 1967 model year, but I'm not sure about later years.
I'm looking for Shelby documents or dealer paperwork that lists the address with a date.

Thanks for any help,
Rich

I'm curious if they are showing either the 2019 Heritage or maybe the new Carbon Series model.
Please post some picture if you've seen one there. I can't find any on the web from this year.

1965 GT350/R-Model / 5s087 photos from the Spring 1967
January 30, 2019, 12:21:57 PM
Some of you may enjoy this story I came across. Last night I was searching the web for photos from when Lance Reventlow occupied 1042 Princeton Drive (just before Shelby started building cobras there). A photo of what looked like a dark green 65 GT350 popped up. I followed the link to an acoustic guitar forum.

The following info was noted by "mdunn" the current owner; These photos were taken in the spring of 1967. The car is SN# 5s087 painted by the original owner dark metallic green to match his Oldsmobile convertible.

Dunn was a student at the U of AZ. At the time, the GT350 owner lived in another apartment in his complex. The original owner was from PA and would drive it home in the summers. One fall, on the way back to AZ they ran into him in OK. Their route back to AZ took them through El Paso, TX. They decided to take a detour into Mexico looking for some provocative Mexican girls.

When the '65 GT350s lease ran out the original owner returned it to the dealer for a '68 GT350. The dealer's son was the next owner. He had it for a short time before Dunn acquired it. Dunn reported it is still that green metallic color to this day (posted 8/22/2016).

Also in the photo is another GT350 in the original white. It is SN# 5s222 owned by a fraternity brother of Dunn's. The Cobra was owned by another student John Hornberg. Hornberg's father was a Jaguar importer in the west.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / 67 photos from the web
January 19, 2019, 01:40:06 PM
I've been checking out some of the Facebook Shelby & Ford pages and there are quite a few really cool "Vintage" photos of '67 Shelby's that I wanted to share here and maybe discuss.

A fellow named Duffy Matt posts some really interesting photos over on "Vintage FoMoCo Drag Racing Photos"
Here's one '67 GT350 that immediately caught my attention with the large letter Goodyear tires.
Then I saw the upper scoop light...1 of about 21 Dark Moss Green cars with the USLs. No other info posted.

This was posted on a Facebook page...unfortunately the ID was not listed.
1964 maybe?
different rims front and rear!

I love the vintage color photos of these freshly finished Cobra's!

I was wondering how many of these SA newsletters were made.

Back on Forum 1.0, someone had posted a few pages from the May 1967 Volume I - Issue II.
There can't be to many more of these if SA closed in August.

While chasing the running changes of different taillight panel versions I came across this oddity.
At first I suspected it might be a reproduction. However, those typically have a lip over the trunk which help reduce the warping and improves the seal.

So the question for anyone reading this is...Does your car have this raised panel with NO lip?
If so what is the Shelby VIN number? I'd like to track the build dates of it, if it is a production piece from LAX.

"SVO" or "SVO&PS" sheets are also known as the "add/delete" sheets coveted by '67 Shelby owners as additional Ford Factory paperwork for their cars. These SVO sheets note the DSO number and the specific options added to this group of cars. It lists the total number of units, a breakdown of each unit by paint color and code, and all the part numbers added or deleted for Ford's San Jose factory. As production of these base units continued through the model year many parts changed, some were added, and others were deleted. It was all done to help streamline the efforts of the finishing production line at Shelby American saving both time and costs.

A post on the "Shelby Forums" over ten years ago appears to have helped bring many of them out of hiding. Now I'm hoping to take it a step further and find even more of them or improved legible versions.  I'll start a list here shortly of known copies to help.

Specially, I'm trying to help Dave resolve some questions about DSO 2534, 2536, 2538, and 2540 which appear to have some Ford data issues. If you have a copy of these SVO sheets please let me know ASAP. I'll forward you my email if you would send me a copy.

Here's an example of the first page of an SVO sheet for DSO 89-2609. You can see many of the details I previously noted. This copy is one of the better ones I've seen. It's said these can be found under the rear seat cushion, or under the foot areas of the carpeting.
