I really get a kick out of the restored cars. It's like a time warp to me. What ever Shelby fixer-upper I get, it will go back to stock. If it had a/c, it will get a/c, etc. I think it will be a lot of fun and scuffed knuckles taking it from forlorn to nearly-new or like-new again. I wonder what color code it will have? Can't wait. I may have to refinance the house to get one or if I'm smart, wait until I have enough in the bank. Responsibility stinks sometimes. ::) :-\
Took my 69 GT350 out for a photo op today. Sunset and leaves turning were perfect. My professional photographer, aka wife, captured this beauty shot. I love the symmetry of colors between the side stripe and trees.

Doug, your car is incredible too.
Great cars, these '69-'70 models. I think I am now inspired to fully restore my first Shelby. They look so clean. Nice cars, everyone. I like them all, especially the Grabber colors and the Silver Jade and the Gulfstream Aqua! I'd love to find one with a white interior and a white top. Umm, umm, umm.

Don't do it!!!!!! Keep your car as it is. If you restore it you won't want to drive it, I enjoy my driver quality cars way more then the two done cars that I am afraid to drive around Los Angeles. Good looking! What color is it?
Is that Wimbledon White?
Pastel Grey
I didn't think it looked like Wimbledon White! Pastel Gray is the color of my GT350 as well.
Under construction GT350 #356
Btw, how can you tell Pastel Grey from White and do the hood stripes on the '69-'70 models go all the way to the trim on the front end? I've seen them two different lengths.
At first glance Pastel Gray looks like white but if you're familier with Wimbledon White you can see it's more of a creamy white then the Pastel Gray.
find them all beautiful !
I agree that they are all beautiful. There are some colors I would rather not end up with, like one of the two whites or the Jade Black. I like the Grabber colors, all the greens, all the blues and all the reds. I really like Grabber Green and the Competition Red. Maroon would not be my first choice, but I like it. Gulfstream Aqua and the Silver Jade are probably my favorites. You know, Cape Cod still has that '69 Grabber Yellow Hurst car that is still for sale. It's not a convertible and it's not my first choice of color, but I'd buy it, if I had the wherewithal to get it. I recently bought another 4-plex, so my finances are looking much better, but I still need a few more buildings, before I even THINK about buying a project car like that. I can't wait to see it finished by someone and I hope they take it back to it's factory state, well at least back to its original color. The Hurst cars are quite rare, among already rare cars! It would be a great purchase. A white interior would be nice, but I don't know what it came with, originally. This thread has been great.

Mark, where is your post of your white car with the red interior. I've never seen a Shelby with a red interior. Do they have a name for this red, like they did with the white in calling it Parchment? This red interior was only available on the '69-'70 models?

Excuse the pictures since I have a good part of the interior out removing old upgrades like a Pioneer stereo etc.
Mark, thanks for the posts. I thought I was crazy, because I only saw black and Parchment listed as interiors for Shelbys. I KNEW I had seen somewhere that stated there was a red interior for the later Shelbys. I sure wish I had a Shelby to work on. My wife would never see me, unless she hung out in the garage! no, the RED was called RED( D code) as in it used a dark red interior on all 69-70 Shelbys. 1970 they switched to an orange interior they called vermillion(E code) and as you know 70 Shelbys are 69s.
On ALL '69-'70 Shelbys or just the fastback models?
My Dad was a safety engineer for A.O.Smith in Milwaukee. The car he bought from the company in 1970 was one of two demos (the other a convert) and it was his daily driver for years. Originally an automatic car, it now sports a 5 speed, 462" fuel injected engine, coil over front & rear suspension, near stock appearance inside & out, and is getting close to completion with the original Acapulco Blue color.
I recently had the opportunity to see this incredible car, and I can tell you, the engineering, workmanship and components are TOP NOTCH. His garage and workshops are first rate, and his attention to detail rivals the very best. He plans to have the car finished for this spring, and I cannot wait to see it outside, hear it going thru its paces, and get a ride!
Although I am a dyed-in-the-wool, old-school, stock originality Shelby enthusiast, I have much respect for a guy who applies this level of effort to his take on a modernized 1969 Shelby GT 500.
You have to admit, in our Shelby World, it takes "a set" to do something like this, doesn't it? And that's what makes it so darn cool - a man doing his OWN THING in what is a very rigid, structured environment for the rest of us.
Mind you, I'm very comfortable in the rigid, structured (Concours) environment that I choose to live in (that's my taste) but I think there's also those of us here who live vicariously thru guys like H.
SFM, I agree that these cars, because they are so rare and special, they really shouldn't be taken too far from stock. I don't think each one needs or must be concours (but I do have a serious appreciaton for the cars that are very correct), but I do not think they should have their original drivetrains permanently changed and factory roll bars being hacked out or the wheel wells flared, etc. I further stipulate, that if someone really needs to do that with a car, do not make it a Shelby. You don't see the Ferrari guys doing that with a '57 TR! Make damn good and sure, if you modify a Shelby, it can be easily converted back to at least good driver quality. We are stewards of these cars, just like the Japanese sword collectors regard their ownerships of their swords as stewardships. Next on the soapbox, step up.
A 1957 Testa Rosa is what? A $20,000,000 car?
Oh, and the Ferrari guys are pretty liberal on color changes and resurrecting a car from a pile of burned up mush.

Oh, and the Ferrari guys are pretty liberal on color changes and resurrecting a car from a pile of burned up mush.
Well, I don't know any Ferrari owners or restoration guys, so I wouldn't know about color changes. I can loosen-up my ideas about how Shelbys should be. I'm just trying to find my first one. I'll just take my future car back to factory paint, even if I don't like that color or I can pass on it and wait to find another one. Anyways, I just really like Shelbys, so I'll buy one some day.
And you should do just that. The way you want to. 😎
