Title: Shelby-Steffans Lake Tahoe
Post by: capecodmustang.com on July 04, 2018, 07:44:37 PM
I just dragged home a 67 that's been sitting in a barn in Carson City, NV

The license plate frame is "Shelby-Steffans"
Lake Tahoe is at the top.

Has anyone heard of Shelby-Steffans?

Bret

Shelby had a dealership in Tahoe, but I don't think he sold any 67 s there

I had a 67 from a Lake Tahoe dealership once but I think it was like "South Lake Tahoe Ford" or something....

I can't find anything on Shelby-Steffans...
I'm wondering if perhaps it isn't a car dealer at all but another business that had Shelby in the title.
And they made plates...

Sounds like 2 last names.  A last name Shelby and a last name Steffans. Two buddies in the used car business?

In 1968, Carroll Shelby purchased a Ford
dealership in Lake Tahoe. Records show
that they sold two 1968s, ten 1969s and
one 1970 Shelby. In November of 1972
Shelby took on partner Bill Steffans and
changed the name from "Shelby Ford" to
"Shelby-Steffans Ford." In 1973 they sold
it and it became Anderson Ford. So while
this license plate frame has Shelby's name
on it, no Shelby Mustang ever wore one.

That's another for the frame collectors. All considered, can't be many made.
