That was Ed's car
Special Eds special order paint midnite orchid mettalic (69 one year only purple thunderbird color) 4;30 w-code drag pack loaded GT 500 vert the only w-code shelby convertible made & was special ordered by robert lowe( president of goodyear out of akron ohio area )along with a purple 69 thunderbird for Mr. Young & his wife to have new matching cars. While we were at woodward with both w-code verts i was interviewed by channel 7 ABC news & we were right after the interview with the couple who bought the blue first 64 1/2 vert & they still own it. U can see tv interview at
Wxyz.com about 30 min in i believe. 50 years later i took the car back to woodward dearborn where it was built then to 50th cj norwalk meet then to wadsworth ohio ford dealership where is was ordered from & spent its early days on those streets again on this trip.
FYI in case you didn't hear Ed mumble at the end ,that is original paint on the car and although it might not be the shiniest the paint is only original once.

That car has always been my favorite of your cars. The addition of the Cooper Cobra tires is just a little over the top for me . No denying that those are fun tires. I knew I would never have enough money to buy your Purple car so I did the next best thing I could think of ;)

I already have a grabber orange one. ;)
For those who dont know Shelby had a tire & wheel companys in the early 70s (Look at my ebay store nos poster HOT ONES from SHELBY international inc.) The tires on my shelby are wide SHELBY SIXTY And they have a cobra in a circle between SHELBY & SIXTY . Shelby tire sold different size low profile wide 60 series tires and were like the mickey thompson low profile tires from that era and were short lived since the new radial tires were coming out in the mid 70s.

When you mount the surf board, it has to go upside down with the curve going down? Was there a SAI bulletin on that?
Thanks for posting Bill. We had always heard about Ed's 'Special' original paint GT500, but it's nice to finally see a picture of it. That purple really screams 'the '60s'!
Nice wig hanging off the board.
:P

And Chris, what did those old tires do to you?
The purple car (with all the girls around it (imagine that) was taken at our wedding in front of ferdinand church (donnas home town) along with 4 other 69-70 dragpack gt 500 verts along with a boss 429 that was used in the wedding party cruise to local bars on the way to the reception in huntingburg along with about 600 guests. The 3 purple car triangle photo was at tulsa mid america meet & we had a purple haze meet getting all 3 known 1969 special order paint midnite orchid mettalic cars together Tony Kings drag pack 4 speed black interior & Kelly Schutz 428 cj with a/c auto white interior mach 1s & we had 6-packs of purple haze beer to celebrate this special purple reunion.
