1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Front end height
December 06, 2021, 09:08:42 PM
Just acquired a GT350. It is a non Koni car but it has them installed. Also, it does not have the upper arm relocation. To me it is high in the front. (From the ground to the top of the fender, centered to the wheel, it measures 35 inches). Is that somewhat a normal height? I have 215-65-14 tires.
I would like to lower it, front only. What is the best means?
Order custom front springs?
Relocate the upper control arm?
Other?
Not interested in cutting the coil, or lowering the back also.

Years ago, I bought a car, it was a basket case! It needed everything!

It began like this, a Body Shop owner came over to my house, where he looked it over and gave me an idea how much it would cost to do bodywork/paint. To which we both agreed that he could start anytime. We got a date for picking up the car and taking it to the shop.

The car was dissembled and the body sat in his shop for about 6 months, to which he called me one day and admitted that the metalwork was over his head, he told me he had an idea. There was a guy in our town who was a fabricator for one of the NASCAR race teams and he was at his shop looking over the car where he stated he could do all the metal work it needed, I agreed to it and transported the car to his shop. His work was fantastic and attention to detail was top notch and he did the work in about 6 months....(remember this, we are at a YEAR now).

The car was brought back to the 1st guy, and to make a long story short, it sat, untouched, for about 4 years plus a few months, we will call it 4 years. (remember that, now we are up to FIVE YEARS)

I pulled the car out and brought it back to my house, I was done with him. Maybe another 6 months went by and I found another guy who said, if all the metal work is done, I can finish it for you, at this point all the panels were lined up very nicely, easy! RIGHT? The car was delivered to his shop, where it was dissembled and where the welds were and other areas it was cleaned up. The body guy then called me and said, "I lost interest in doing the car for you, come and get it out of the ship, BTW you owe me $#%&@.00 (remember this we can add up the time to SIX YEARS).

The car was back at my home where no panels lined up anymore, it was just a sad looking rust free car! I thought of giving up and just getting out of it, but I did not. Some might say, "It will get done, when it gets done!" "The whining and moaning is getting old on this topic"  "Feel free to take it and do it yourself"... Family members would come over for Christmas Eve dinner and see the car in the basement and ask how is the car coming? Friends would as the same. I was so bothered that I almost traded a 65 Shelby GT350 FAKE for it, but I didn't. I am sure that many who came over to the house thought, "Ha, he will never get that car done."

Then I found a restoration shop in our area, they came over and looked the car over and said, yes we can take it and finish it, even take care of the mechanical work, in other words, I would be able to drive it home from their shop! How refreshing! After 2 years of it sitting, they told me they were is some sort of "trouble" and needed to clear out the cars in the shop, they brought it back along with about 20 boxes of stuff. They had it for 2 years. Just to add, I did not find out until a few years later that I was missing many unique parts to the engine, and had not recourse due to the time. (remember, we are now at EIGHT YEARS)

In about 3 years, I thought I would call a guy who restored many cars over the years and I knew of his work first hand, I was not sure he even did that anymore. He told me he does work for people that he knows and that he would do my car. I should have just thought of him in the first place, but thought the cost would be way too high. (The real cost was not just paying the money to the right guy). Anyway, he picked up the car and in a little over a year, it was done! (SO, total restoration work was just over TWELVE YEARS). I will be always thankful for this person who said he could do it and he did!

It is very good to be: patient, PERSISTENT, and keep asking questions, (Where is this? Where is that? Why is this not further along? When can I expect it?). It worked out and the car is now finished....I thought of this story as I am patiently, persistently, AND have been asking, When we can expect the 1967 Registry?

On a 67, can the windows be adjusted to raise up higher to seal better and reduce wind noise? How?
Also, not to repeat...what about a 70?

Wanted to Buy / Wanted: 1967 Shelby GT350
October 11, 2021, 01:32:44 PM
I love my GT350, but I also like to shift, hope I don't regret this when I get much older.... I have a nice driver plus condition car that was in Texas 99% of its life. The underside is in red primer with overspray like it came, with a super nice interior, correct steering wheel, gauges, seat belts and harnesses. Repro Magstars. It is a AUTO with AIR, from the factory and it is, MOSS GREEN, also factory.

I am looking for a trade only, what I am interested in is:

1967 GT350
Factory MANUAL transmission
Factory NO AIR, want room for a Paxton
Factory White, Nightmist Blue, Red. I have way too many green cars to want the same thing, I would just install a manual in this car then.

Ideas? I will listen to anything....

The Lounge / We need to talk!
October 06, 2021, 08:08:42 PM
What is happening here? Just sayin' but 200K up.....? If you think about the fun factor, is it a better bargain than an original? Compare cost of restoring a 65, 66, 67 Shelby. I mean buying a Shelby, and restoring it correctly.

https://youtu.be/Thcf73V3T2g

If you restore an original, it is a good investment? If one was to pay 170K for a 66 GT350 and wanted it restored by a actual Shelby restorer, I think you can say it would cost 200K to do it with real ford original parts. (no repo stuff). That total would be 370K and it would take a while. Would you actually have fun with it?

Please don't yell at me. And who are these drivers in the video?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Saw this on I81 in PA

We were going home to Knoxville, via 81 south, saw this car, it looked like a "just found as is" car. I wish my wife got the door on the ramp truck!

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-((

Interested in way better cooling for 66 GT350, 67, and 70. Without getting too technical, confusing, and or crazy, Where would I be able to buy a nice, extra cooling, heavy duty bolt in radiator? I do not care about numbers, judges, concourse stuff. I do care that it will resemble something that is a factory look. I don't want it to look like a robot is living under the hood. I want it to "keep it's cool" on the hottest days/nights. I put this post under here, because I am basically asking for 65 through 70 years. Thanks

Has anyone installed a radiator overflow devise in their car? 65 through 70 Mustang or Shelby? If so, where did you get it and is there one that might look good?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Aluminum Tag
June 14, 2021, 09:54:51 AM
My car I believe has a repro aluminum tag. It is fully verified through SAAC. I am just wondering if anyone might have a 67 Tag that they may have collected years ago.

The Lounge / Found a few pictures/thoughts
May 31, 2021, 05:08:50 PM
On a recent move outa New York...I came across a few pictures, maybe more to follow.

My Grabber Green Boss 429 that I bought back in the mid 80's and a SAAC event where CS was there and he walked around signing cars, he signed mine right on the stripe on the hood!!! I thought that was so cool. Old plaques from shows with my GT350. I threw so many of them away due to size!

Good FUN days. Owning a GT350 and that Boss was so special that I did not even know just how special that was. Today I have a different GT350 and a "little" Boss, and I am the luckiest guy to have been able to re-aquire similar cars to what I had back in the 80's.

There will be a time where I will pass these cars on, because isn't that what we will eventually do? Isn't this thought strange? This is what I have to think about, yet "The Greatest Generation" had other concerns to think about.

I wish I could take one of my many Uncles, that fought for this Country, for a ride and thank them for the honor of giving them a ride in a car that is so special.
