I think the Ford guys may have already answered the question. They bought an off the shelf part that was different from what the engineers had designed. They use the same part number - because it doesn't matter. Flow and pressure are likely unaffected by the different hole size.

Quote from: Kent on May 02, 2024, 01:31:58 PMExtra cooling means the A/C equipped cars right? Thank you.

Extra cooling was a stand alone option in 1968. It means a clamp in 24" wide radiator. If you ordered AC you automatically got extra cooling too.

Flow and pressure are inversely proportional so that would be the case.

I shipped a bare 390 block a couple years ago. With a pallet, plumber's tape to secure it to the pallet, and wrapped in plastic the scale barely hit 200 pounds. A 428 should be a bit lighter with a bigger bore.

What Bob said - if the technician used clear fluid it is a dead giveaway, and the pump failing is the usual result. Once in a while you will get lucky and be able to change the fluid for the proper type and have everything start working right. I have never been that lucky.

Making the hole smaller would increase the oil pressure.

The Hone - O -Drives were a popular addition to motor homes in the late 1960's - early 1970's. Motion performance out of Long Island, NY offered them as an option in the 1971 Corvette. I think that was the first time anyone offered that on a car.

I used this clutch a couple times. Both times I rebuilt the clutch pedal assembly with a kit from Mustang Steve to use roller bearings and a new clutch / brake pedal shaft, and an NOS Z - Bar. I thought it worked well.

The spring shocks are a unique touch.

Scott Drake, Mustang Steve and others offer a Clutch Pedal / Brake pedal shaft rebuild kit which replaces the babbit bushings with caged needle bearings. That is a fantastic upgrade.

Like the others above mention the Z bar is likely worn out or twisted. Possibly the pivot points are worn out too which can only be solved by replacement. There is only one place to adjust the clutch.

The reproduction hinges are a joke. Typical Scott Drake lack of quality. If you were in space looking at them through a telescope they might be acceptable. Otherwise restore a set of originals.

I would not use synthetic grease like the redline product. Reason is the synchros will not be up to speed - the grease is too slippery and thus not competent for use. Really the OEM lubricant is best for a variety of reasons.

Quote from: 68blk500c on April 16, 2024, 10:07:30 PMRoyce, the PI or P/C application listed in the Mercury MPC would be for just that: a big body police car.  However, the Cougar 390GT and Comet 390GT should share the same exhaust valve as the Mustang/Shelby.

Correction:  Comet would share Fairlane application.  Cougar would share Mustang/Shelby.

This exhaust control valve had different applications using different designs other than for this topic.  Examples:
Galaxy, T-bird, even trucks, as well as Lincoln; same function, but different design for their application.
Pretty sure for 1967 model year all of them would share the same exhaust manifolds. The Comet / Fairlane / Mustang / Cougar all used the exact same manifolds in 1967 for the 390 and in the case of the Shelby, for the 428 as well. I do not believe the spacer was available in 1967 model year, being a C8 part number.

Quote from: Lincoln tech on April 16, 2024, 06:44:31 PMYou are talking about a "heat riser"?  Exhaust valve usually sits in cylinder head. :-\

The description calls it an "Exhaust Control Valve".
