Richard: He can still drive...one ski pole on the gas, one on the clutch.

No need to use the brake.

At your dad's age, I wouldn't be slowing down for anything! 

Like my 90+ year old Uncle Larry (legally blind, but could still drive pretty well...without a license) would say:
"I'm 91, what are they going to do to me?"
