The Lounge / How do you wash your Shelby
February 08, 2018, 04:15:26 PM
I've recently viewed the rinseless car wash procedure on YouTube particularly involving a 65 G.T. 350 and wondered if anyone here has an opinion on its viability as an effective means of cleaning the paintwork without getting water in crevices and cracks where it would best be left dry. I am suitably intrigued by the procedure.

Not no noob.  Hey wait, that was a double negative.  Sigh...

For the record, it was never my intent to question the veracity of this car, but rather to show with amusement what some people do as a temporary (hopefully) solution to holding a vin tag in place. Maybe it was an old photo and the owner got tired of removing the rivet to compare the Ford vin. I also remember distinctly from an old magazine that someone attached a snowplow shovel to the front end of a 66 Hertz.

This is the source. I may have muddied the record at the beginning of my post by mentioning the Hertz with the fender flares. I meant to add that the Hertz was another Shelby I saw with unusual attributes in addition to this one. I will attribute it to Bullitt delirium or Bullitt fatigue. Was playing soundtrack up and back. Hardcore.

Jim must have been going easy on it in the pic. I'm sure if he opened up both four barrels he would have had a Miller bath! And 'deathsled' is one of the best aliases on this forum - I wouldn't change a thing.  8)
Sage advice.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Hertz painted white
February 05, 2018, 10:25:04 AM
With fender flares and blue and white velour interior. Looks kinda hot from exterior in a forbidden borderline sacrilegious sort of way.

Found on Bring a Trailer site under Shelby Mustang. Saw a Hertz car on there with huge flares painted white with white and blue velour interior as well. I could find and post.

At least it did the job of keeping the tag with the car.
Or did they not have rivets when they transferred it to the replacement body?

Quite possibly!  Guess you could say they got "screwed" on the deal.

More.  The tires are Firestones.  Look very very old.  Hmmmm.  I wonder.  The Torque Thrusts are seriously old as well.  THey might be made of magnesium also noting that there are new valve stems (to prevent leaking due to age of the magnesium?).  And look how the Firestones fill the fenders.  Totally hot!  I should have asked if they would let me lick the paint.  (Just kidding.  Well sort of kidding LOL!)  I am so glad I went on the fly to see this phenomenon of car culture.  Special thanks to Vern Estes who turned me on to its relatively close proximity to me otherwise I would never have gone.  Now I need to hunt down 5R002 that I missed.  Damn!

"explain me to the rookies."  I love it!  Gear heads are a special breed.  Always have been and always will.  I submit that when driverless cars descend upon us there will be those of us who figure out how to manually override the driverless systems.  I just got up.  Downloading pics from my camera in addition to the phone camera pics of Bullitt.  What a nightmare driving back.  Snow squalls the whole length of US. 31 and lots of tailgaters.
