Curious, these cars and '60s vintage muscle cars in general appeal to a more mature crowd. The cost and reliability are something few younger folks can or wish to participate with. Project cars are a loosing proposition as current labor costs to professionally restore often outweigh any potential resale. Question becomes, is there a typical ownership interval before a mature owner cashes in? Thinking many cars may have 10 or more owners by now.
No.
Second owner for the past 42 years. No need or desire to "cash in".
2nd owner since Dec 1971, not selling yet, having too much fun
Only had mine since 82.Its old but I think I'll keep it.... 8)
Fourth owner since 1983. Still enjoying the ride.
I guess I am in the young crowd, 4th owner in the history, just updated Howard for the new registry
1st private owner (Hertz) since July 1970. Since she predates my wife by a year she is a permanent family member. :)
TOB
Only owner since Hertz, August 1967, and no plans to find a new owner. Ron
3rd owner since 1986. Way too much fun to part with.
it's about the fun and history, not the money. same owner for last gabillion years. phred
you go.... scoops !! 8)
We're the 3rd owners of the Tiger, bought it in 1985.
no plans to sell... I usually say, "they can bury me in it - or the kids can fight over it" ;D
I've only owned 2148 for a year, but I'm only the 4th owner.
It's funny how ownership timing can work. The previous owner of my 67 Shelby had it for 43 years, yet he was the 4th or 5th owner.
The previous owner of my 66 Shelby had it for over 49 years, and he was the 3rd owner.
I had a 68 convertible for less than 2 years. Great car, but didn't resonate with me like the 66 and 67. So I sold it. The previous owner had it for 10 years.
I'd venture to say that these cars are quite special and people like to hang onto them overall.
Second owner for the past 51 1/2 years. Purchased with 1,100 miles on meter. Not for sale at any price, ever. Some things just can't be replaced.
Have had 6S1802 since '81, it will go to which ever one of my grandsons avoids prison and appreciates what it is. He will also have to know how to adjust valves.
3rd owner for 46 years...no plans to sell....last link to my misguided....UTE..... ::)
I've had mine since January of 1971. Third owner. No plans to sell it. Built a 66 Mustang coupe to beat on. Had that for 25+ yers. Sold it and am building a Lil'Red clone for fun.
I am guessing that if you surveyed the auction and dealer trades, those might have a higher turnover for investment purposes, unless the vehicle is of high historical value that are to be held as a museum piece.
I'm a second owner. Bought it in January 1975, almost 44 yrs! It's a 65. Original owner bought it at High Performance Motors.
It's a 'day two' car. One of the few 'drivers' left. Thankful kept original drivetrain and wheels!
Probably be selling more sooner than later.

Driving is the best part
I don't own a Shelby, but our Mach is the next best thing.
69 Mach in family since Jan. '70, '67 since '79.
Drive 'em all the time, even in the winter when roads are clear ;D

Do you run a Holley or the stock Autolite given all of the years owned ?
Good thread!
I don't own a Shelby yet but my '66 was purchased as a disassembled shell in 2003, when I was 21, and it took a while for me to build. I can definitely relate to the feeling many have regarding never selling, as I only recently truly sorted everything allowing me to reliably drive distances. Now that I can finally enjoy her out and about I'm certainly not going to sell.
Looks like I'm one of the younger owners with *only* 15-years time. ;) My father bought 6s1097 in the late-80s and I was able to restore the car with him throughout my teenage years, which developed my life-long passion for Shelby Mustangs!

Being 3rd owner having purchased in '77 can assume these cars do not appear on the market all that often. Perhaps lending cause to demand and supply.
Jay Leno spoke to this topic on an episode featuring his '65 GT350. He said these are a fun to own investments, and unlike investing in stocks and bonds, nobody sells a Shelby.
between the two of us we have had shelby s in our lives for 85 years total . I have owned 212 longer than the 2 previous owners combined . and i dont see it going anywhere ;D
Probably 80-90 percent are long term true enthusiast ownership, the other 10-20 percent are car flippers that don't know, care or understand much about the cars as long as they make money in the process. That's the American way, similar to other marques I'm sure.
Owned #187 since christmas eve 1986.Restored twice over the years, plan is to use it more as it should've been.Only problem is that the value of these cars, require some caution in traffic!?
Will be caretaker of 187 for some time to come.Just hope that our politicians allow us to buy gas!Not many living here, but we're destined to save the world...Tesla and likes are popular, due to free passing at toll roads. ::)
Hello,
I am at least the 4th owner of the first production GT500 (67411F--0100-ENG.). I took ownership on 12/27/79, nearly 39 years ago now. I am not planning on letting it go any time soon.
Thanks,
Eric
And remember, in the late 60s to late 70's , many of these cars were just "used cars" and changed hands frequently as such. Mine is a 2 owner car purchased 5 years from the original buyer. I had my Gt500 for 11 years staring in 2001, and was the third owner.
That's a similar story to my car 1189 seriously enjoyed the first 5 years of its life .Parked in 1971 because of street racing incident, has been in a 47 year nap since. Getting closer to being finished but still not done. 3 owners in the last 51 years ! All three of us LOVE fast SHELBYS- Well that's what they were built for right. ;D
About 5 years ago I bought an original paint Survivor B9 from a very good friend.
He bought it a few years before that from the original owners.
Did I tell you it's Raven Black.......
^^^ Oh Yeah :)

Thats Nice!!
5th owner, #2464. Had for twenty years. No plans to sell. Too much fun.
4th owner of #02267. I have owned it 29 years. Longer than all other owners combined. No plans to sell.
Rodney
We are the third owners after Hertz of 6S715 having owned it 20 years , the owner before me 22 years.
We Had plenty of chances to sell. Might be tempted to trade into a nice 67 350 who knows.
