What is the correct paint color for a 428 PI engine in a 1966 Cobra?     I have seen restored Cobras with the engine painted black, dark Ford blue, and light Ford blue.

Black ended after 65 production was over . I posted the 1966 ad. 66 428 PI would be dark Ford blue from the factory. The light Ford blue is what some 6 cylinder engines were painted.

I had a 1966 Ford 7 Liter that had the Black 428 with Gold Valve Covers and a Gold Open Air Cleaner.

If the engine used in the 66 Cobra was produced before approximate Aug of 1965 it would be black. If original to the car you can check the engine assembly date to confirm that or not. If the engine used in the 66 Cobra was assembled after Aug of 1966 it would most likely be blue like all of the other engines being changed over to the Blue color in that time period as evidenced by the 1966 circa Ad documentation.
