In the past 25 years the Cobra Caravan has captured the imagination of at least three Don Quixotes who took seriously the challenge of recreating Shelby American's tractor trailer rig and filling it with one each, Cobra Daytona Coupe, 427 S/C, GT40 and R-Model. They set out to gather up the cars and each came very close. But due to the rapid escalation of values of these pinnacles of the marque that their dream required, each fell short.
SAAC member Tommy Thompson of Phoenix, AZ approached it from a different angle. He found the same type of trailer that Shelby used and outfitted it to carry four cars. He then repainted the exterior and recreated exactly the original Cobra Caravan's graphics. The perfect place to debut the rig was this year's Monterey Historics and its salute to Ford's 100th Anniversary. Getting the required cars for the weekend was relatively simple.
