MEMBERSHIP DUES
SAAC DUES PRICE INCREASE
While no one likes to see the price of anything
increase, we all suffer through it. For SAAC members, however, price increases
don't come along very often. The last time dues were raised was in 1999, and you
probably can't
name anything that hasn't increased in price over the past 8 years. The cost of
everything we deal with has steadily risen and so, it was necessary to increase
the club's dues to keep up.
Effective February 1, 2008, annual dues will be $57 for new memberships and $50
for renewals for U.S. and Canadian members. Prices for all overseas members will
be $65 for new members and renewals. The additional costs for overseas members
reflects only the additional cost of postage.
Here's an interesting fact: the cost of a SAAC membership has kept pace with
other goods and services that government economists use in their calculations.
According to the federal government's Consumer Price Index, a
SAAC membership in 1976 of $15.00 would be $54.38 in 2008 dollars. Compare that
to 10 gallons of gas which, in 1975, cost about $4.00. Today you'd be happy to
pay $30 for that same 10 gallons.
Anyone joining or renewing at the old rate will receive an abbreviated 10-month
membership. We appreciate your understanding.
