SAAC WORLD REGISTRY

This book is a virtual encyclopedia of facts and figures, production records and individual histories of every car built by l Shelby American & Shelby Automotive: Cobras, GT350s, GT500s, Ford GTs, King Cobras, Mustang notchback Trans-Am cars and more. It contains everything SAAC has been able to discover about these cars since we began the club, back in 1975. Individual registrars began collecting information on cars even farther back than that—in 1970.

SAAC has printed 3 of these books to date: 1982, 1987 and 1997. We are nearing completion of the 4th Volume now. Each registry contains more information than the previous one and they take upwards of 4 years to produce. In fact, the next one will contain so much information that has to be printed in two separate volumes. Volume 1 will be completed in August of 2008 and it will contain information on Cobras and GT40s. It will be about 1500 pages. Yes, you read that right. As soon we send it of to the printer we will begin work on the second volume, Shelby Mustangs and Trans-Am cars.

Each type or year of car has its own Registrar. Their databases of information are continually being updated and expanded beyond what has been published in the last book. Every time a car changes hands, if the seller or buyer reports it to the club, the registrar is informed and they add this information to their files. When a new member joins the club they are asked for information on their car so our database can be updated. And whenever a registrar sees a car identified by serial number at an auction or in a classified ad, it becomes part of the history of that car.

Registrars will gladly share what information they have on individual cars with club members (as well as non-members) if requested. The registrar’s databases are not accessible in their entirety because some information they have is confidential. The only way to get information on every car is by purchasing a registry when the club publishes one.

To send information to the registrar on a particular type of car, click the appropriate link below. You do not have to be an owner to submit information on a car. The most important thing is, of course, the car’s serial number. Without that, any other information isn’t very helpful.

The last registry—printed in 1997— is still available. It is a hardcover book, 1336 pages, and contains information on all leaf spring and coil spring Cobras, 1965-1970 Shelby Mustangs and all models of GT40s. Information includes serial numbers, individual histories, indexes of owners, production figures, vehicle specifications, serial number explanations and locations, part numbers for all unique parts, part number explanations, factory color codes, stripe dimensions, technical service bulletins, mechanical component guide, glossary of terms specific to these cars and 850 photographs. Price is $125 plus $15 postage in the U.S. (outside the U.S. books are shipped via air mail and cost of postage varies). To order a 1997 Edition (while they last) click here.

The NEXT edition of the SAAC World Registry—Volume 1: Cobras and GT40s— will have detailed information and photos of the following cars: original leaf spring and coil spring Cobras, 289 and 427 competition Cobras, Daytona Coupes, Dragonsnakes, AC Racing Coupes, McCluskey Daytona Coupes, Superformance Brock Coupes, King Cobras, 427 S/C Completion Cobras, CSX4000/7000/8000 Cobras, AC MK IVs, AC COX Continuation Cobras, Kirkham Cobras, Ford GTs, Safir GT40 MK Vs, Holman GT40 MK II cars, Kar Kraft MK IV cars, Superformance GT40s, Lone Star, Shelby Can-Am racers, ’05-’06 Ford GTs.

You can order the 2008 Registry in advance of publication at a special pre-publication price of $175 plus $15 postage within the U.S. This book will be printed and shipped by December of 2008. After it is printed the price will be higher. To order the 2008 Cobra/GT40 Edition click here .
